The Communist Party, which has loyally supported the war in Ukraine, has become a target of the Kremlin.

In Russia, even supporting President Vladimir Putin's war policy is not necessarily enough as the security apparatus seeks to eradicate all opposition activity from the country.

This has been experienced firsthand by the Putin-loyal Communist Party, which has now found itself in the authorities' crosshairs, reports the Moscow Times.

The Communist Party is the second-largest party in Russia after Putin's United Russia, holding 57 seats in the 450-seat State Duma.
The party is part of the so-called systemic opposition that nominally opposes the regime but in practice supports Putin on all major issues.

In addition to the Communists, the systemic opposition is represented by the conservative and nationalistic Liberal Democratic Party (despite its name), the nominally social democratic A Just Russia party, and the self-proclaimed liberal New People party.

Before the war in Ukraine, the systemic opposition parties were allowed minor deviations from the official line, but nowadays they are expected to support Putin's line ever more unanimously.

"For those opposing the military actions, it may seem like there is no opposition at all, as all parties represented in parliament officially support the 'special military operation,'" summarized Stanislav Andreychuk of the Russian election monitoring organization Golos to the Moscow Times in April.

According to the Ukrainian human rights organization EHRG, the Communist Party has indeed supported Russia's war effort by, among other things, supplying weapons and ammunition to the front, supporting paramilitary groups, and spreading war propaganda.

But why is the Kremlin persecuting a party that so loyally follows Putin's line?

Parliamentary elections will be held in Russia in September, and as they approach, dozens of Communist Party members have been arrested. In the party's stronghold in the Altai region of Siberia, 11 party members have been arrested over the past three months. Among the arrested is Yuri Kropotin, deputy speaker of the regional parliament.

Gennady Zyuganov, who has led the party since the 1990s, has therefore expressed bewilderment over why communists are being persecuted.

According to a Russian election expert, the persecution of the pro-Kremlin opposition is linked to the upcoming elections. Even loyal support for Putin and the "special military operation" is not enough when the Kremlin fears that even the Kremlin-supporting opposition threatens the system.

"The Kremlin does not want the systemic opposition parties to become a focal point for protest votes," summarizes Ora John Reuter, a Russia expert at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

"[The Kremlin] is trying to suppress all forms of open opposition activity to make it harder for those opposing [the regime] to figure out who to give their protest votes to."

This is clearly visible in the Altai region, where United Russia has historically had great difficulty succeeding. In the 2021 regional elections, United Russia received "only" 33 percent of the vote, while the Communists took 31 percent.

The situation annoyed United Russia because the existence of even a nominal opposition in the regional parliament meant uncomfortable questions.

"I have been interrogated, threatened, and taken to court in the past. I thought those days were over, but now they are returning in an even more terrible form," Zyuganov laments.

Fortunately for Putin, many regional Communist Party deputies have ended up in court primarily on fraud charges. This has also been the case in many other regions.

Furthermore, it seems that nowadays Russians do not want to run as candidates in any kind of elections. The risk of getting into trouble is too high even as a United Russia candidate.

"All parties are having a hard time. When everyone sees this oppressive pressure, finding candidates and supporters is becoming increasingly difficult," an anonymous election expert points out.

How is this a surprise to anyone? Multipolartards are fucking retard.

Well they should try a merger with UR and support them even harder

Based putler, destroy the sheepdogs so ultras can take their place

What a coincidence, "Putin bad" threads as soon as Russia takes it upon itself to defend the only Socialist state in the Western hemisphere as it faces alone the wrath of the US Empire.

I looked at the original Moscow Times (western gusano media) article, and lo and behold, faggot OP completely neglects to mention:
>Prosecutors allege that Kropotin, who was placed under house arrest, embezzled more than 2 million rubles ($26,000) through fictitious employment schemes between 2021 and 2025.
Apparently its le bad to crack down on corruption, which is absolutely necessary for the RF to do, its in fact a long time coming. Good! Hang all of those embezzlers like China is doing, like was the case under Stalin (ex. Leningrad Affair).

Nobody is really surprised by this, though 11 people in Siberia getting arrested is hardly some great purge. People immediately screeching about multipolarists are insanely mega retarded, as if anyone supports Putin thinking he's some kind of pro communist lmao

what's next? lula getting arrested in brazil was also good? it was a corruption charge

ukrop hands wrote this, reminder that in ukropistan the communist party is completely banned.

>The Communist Party, which has loyally supported the war in Ukraine
They were advocating for direct intervention in Donbass well before 2022. Literally the first line you’ve revealed you know shit about the topic.

Whole lotta claims, not a whole lotta sources. Also, there is a containment thread for Russia. Go there: >>2268556

That communists get arrested by the bourgeois state is a surprise to absolutely no one. Except the kind of western chauvinist who jealously claims the KPRF is bigger than their own parties only because it is controlled opposition, but upon seeing the arrests, rather than re-evaluating their position, chooses to instead double down on a tale of shilled loyalty and senseless betrayal.

The Altai Region Arrests & Fraud Charges (Yuri Kropotin)

<Life.ru (Federal Russian News): "В Алтайском крае задержали двух депутатов от КПРФ за хищение 4,6 млн" (In the Altai Territory, two KPRF deputies were detained for the theft of 4.6 million). This confirms the arrests of Yuri Kropotin and Andrei Chernobay.

Link: https://life.ru/p/1838393

<Amic.ru (Major Altai Regional Outlet): "Алтайского депутата коммуниста Кропотина освободили из-под стражи" (Altai communist deputy Kropotin released from custody). This details his February 7 release into house arrest following the raids, explicitly noting the fraud allegations.

<VKontakte / Local Altai Coverage: Confirms the early morning raids on February 5, 2026, which also targeted Darya Zulina, the editor-in-chief of the local KPRF newspaper, Golos Truda.

The Pre-Election Crackdown Context & Zyuganov's Complaints

<Kizaket (Regional Political Analysis): "В Алтайском крае вернулись к предвыборному 'делу КПРФ'" (In the Altai Territory, they returned to the pre-election "KPRF case"). This article explicitly outlines how the security apparatus is dismantling the KPRF apparatus ahead of the elections. It also confirms Gennady Zyuganov’s direct appeals to Alexander Bastrykin (head of the Investigative Committee) to stop the persecution of his deputies.

Link: https://kizaket.am/news/929133

<Gennady Zyuganov's Statements: Zyuganov's direct quotes complaining about the "unprecedented pressure," interrogations, and court cases are routinely published on the Communist Party's official Russian domain (kprf.ru), where he frequently denounces these regional fraud cases as political attacks.

The Stanislav Andreychuk Quote

<Source: Andreychuk, the co-chair of the independent election watchdog Golos, originally published this commentary in Russian directly on his Telegram channel in April 2025. Independent outlets like The Moscow Times subsequently translated and cited his Telegram post. He also frequently publishes analysis in Russian on the independent tracker Russian Election Monitor.

The EHRG Claims (War Support)

<The Eastern Human Rights Group (Восточная правозащитная группа) is a Ukrainian organization. Because their reports document how systemic Russian parties like the KPRF supply paramilitary groups in occupied territories, their findings are not hosted on Russian (.ru) domains. They disseminate their original Russian-language reports and briefings primarily via their official Telegram channel to bypass state media blocks.

Ignoring the obviously inflammatory claims by OP, it's very obvious that there is something foul with this narrative. On one hand the KPRF is controlled opposition, on the other hand they are smol beans being persecuted. It's obvious that people make these posts want to make any support for the Russian position look insane, a position that the KPRF arrived at for themselves, that is, the support of the SMO while being opposed to the government in domestic and economic matters.

>>2701472
Yes I'm suuuuure these charges aren't entirely fabricated.

Campists are fucking retarded to keep defending this mafia state even as it tries to keep socialism from coming back in Russia.

>>2701592
>mafia state
Buzzword I’ve seen a thousand times in Western MSM. The outcome of the current Russian state dissolving is the West’s victory in opening up Russian oil, gas and industry to Western ownership, those hardly sound like the conditions for Socialism.

>>2701458
>Putin's war policy
Go eat shit and die on a rusty spike, hitlerite.
>"For those opposing the military actions, it may seem like there is no opposition at all, as all parties represented in parliament officially support the 'special military operation,
Because all the liberal worms moved to Israel since they 'didn't want to be in war with their neighbor'. Or they're in EU somewhere sucking on the grant tit.
Every single time we talk about this shit in /ukr/ we acknowledge that it is a bourgeois government. Most people in Russia acknowledge that there are problems. That doesn't mean the Epsteinian State of Ukraine shouldn't be eliminated.

>>2701458
Putin is already a Communist leader, these guys sound like posers.

maybe boris pugo was right to kill himself if all that is left of the communist movement is support for pro-western ethnonationalism or support for neo-tsarist grifterism

We shouldn't outsource anti-imperialism to capitalist states

>>2701629
ultra trot leftcom anarchist liberal wrecker o algo

There are no communists in Russia. Russia is a nationalist liberal oligarchy with conservative orthodox Christian social policing - and the so-called communist party back the liberal regime fully, they're merely sycophantic mouthpieces.
Useful idiot drooling retard ziggoids will indeed throw a tantrum defending the purge of "Communists" in any case.
They think the fact that Ukrainians love NATO and Bandera somehow makes anything the liberal, nationalist, oligarchic pseudo-Tsar Putin does unquestionably perfect.
The only thing that can save Russian socialism is a truly organic and grassroots ultra movement which upon seizing power sends assassins to deal with these Western crackkker ass clowns who say Putin is himself the living essence of third world anti-imperialist AES made flesh incarnate by the will of the holy Orthodox Saint Stalin (pbuh).

>>2701630
Nonsense

>>2701655
Wrong. Putin is a Communist dictator who is trying to bring back the USSR. Putin's Russia is a serious threat to American hegemony and to liberal democracies everywhere.

>>2701657
>Putin is a Communist dictator
Oxymoron
>who is trying to bring back the USSR
He could’ve seriously started the process years ago. He’s simply just another one of the USSR’s fuckups.

>>2701657
>The neoliberal capitalist Orthodox Christian theocratic oligarchic neo-Tsardom (Russia) is a threat to the neoliberal capitalist Protestant Christian theocratic oligarchy Gerontocracy (USA)!
Who cares, not my problem. Both deserve to be be obliterated.
Both are a serious threat to my sanity, to basic human intelligence, and also to the welfare of their own peasantry I'd suppose too.
Why would anyone pick sides between the two when they could instead support Communism?
