These people are actually insane. They have no shame.

For years they claimed to be anti-war, anti-establishment, anti-elite. Now they cheer interventions, ignore the Epstein stuff, and defend literally anything Trump does. No standards left at all.

At this point the only thing they consistently care about is culture war slop.

Trump has betrayed them on basically every front that originally made the movement interesting. And instead of noticing, they just double down harder.

As someone closer to the Ron Paul libertarian side of things now, I genuinely feel alienated from this entire crowd of right wingers now. I can't stand these people.

"Messy populist revolt" was always going to end up like this I think. There's a book by Karl Marx called the 18th Brumaire of Louis Napoleon, it's about the rise of to power of Napoleon Bonaparte's farcical nephew to emperor of the French in the 1850s.

Anyways it's really about how political figures try to both revolutionize and preserve the state. Also how different classes and groups in a society can "cancel" each other out (think of messy culture war which never produces a decisive victory for anyone) which leads to a contradictory, messy, conservative-revolutionary populist strongman emerging who appears as a power standing above society and lathers everything up in empire nostalgia and national glory. One result too is that the state itself grows stronger, like you take on the deep state but what actually happens is the real deep state becomes more powerful as a stabilizing mechanism.

In person? Plant seeds. Don't fall into the liberalist trap of thinking that people will wake up when they hear the truth, or a correct argument. Brains don't work like that. Being correct is not enough.
There are better people to advise than me, but I'd recommend non-confrontationally supplying them with the tools to understand the world, so that once material conditions force them to re-assess, they already have a framework that explains this horror show. And, where possible, replacing their media bubble (as an extreme, I've heard anecdotes of people de/radicalizing their partners or burger parents by just betting them they can't watch Faux News for a month)

As an outsider, I've never been sucked into that glorification of the ultrawealthy. It's absurd how anyone can look at figures like Trump or Musk or Gates and think, yeah, these people are on my side.
