Instead of abolishing the petty bourgeoisie, the petty bourgeoisie will simply be (knowingly or unknowingly, willingly or unwillingly, it does not matter) brought into the fold of monopoly capital, the same way peripheral nations were brought into the fold of imperialism. The total horizontal and vertical integration of capital is not complete, but I will give you a simple anecdote illustrating my point. I had a coworker ask ChatGPT what I thought was a naive question. He asked ChatGPT a question about the small business we worked out, and it knew way more than we possibly expected. It had hyper specialized knowledge on our practices and our ways of doing things. It wasn't necessarily doxxing workers, but it was creepy how much it knew. In the 20th century companies did everything they could to prevent "corporate espionage" and "intellectual property theft" but with LLMs that very process has essentially become legalized because it is useful to everyone. And the workers willingly participate in it. They paste their own company's source code into a monopoly's LLM just to speed up a bug fix. Well where does that lead? And btw I don't work at a software company. Chat GPT was answering questions about arcane manual labor procedures at my company… how did it know? Someone must have willingly given it that knowledge at some point to abridge some labor process for themselves. If all this development and accumulation is shattered due to climate change in WW3 where will that leave us? I have no idea. We are cursed to live in interesting times. And the tech becomes more sophisticated and self governing as the people themselves become more ignorant and less technically skilled… it is as if Arthur Clarke's rule about technology and magic is proving itself true not just through the sophistication of the tech itself, but through the dumbing down and hyper-narrowly-focused-specialization of the very people who are building it.
