US and Ecuador fabricating drug trafficking charges against Colombia’s president: audio
In the recording, an Ecuadorean official discusses a “special task force backed by the US Embassy” in Quito that seeks to revoke outstanding extradition requests for drug lords from the border region and convince them to testify against Petro. "So my job is to go to Interpol to have those alerts removed… because the gringos want to catch them—they want to catch one of these guys and make him sing against Petro. You get what I mean? We’re not really going to get involved in that, but the gringos are."

Australia: Labor government conducts police raids against anti-genocide protesters in Melbourne
Early on the morning of March 27, Victoria Police Public Order Response Team (PORT) officers in full combat gear conducted eight raids upon homes around Melbourne to detain eight women who had taken part in a March 6 protest outside the Victorian Trades Hall building. Because the police went to a wrong address, one of the women was raided and arrested on April 1. Just a day before the eight raids, on March 26, heavily-armed NSW police commandos stormed the home of a woman who had joined the large demonstration at Sydney Town Hall on February 9 against the visit by Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

Bally Bagayoko, 52, of the hard-left France Unbowed (LFI) party, was elected mayor of Saint-Denis in the first round of municipal elections on March 15. Labour's business-friendly changes to Fair Work Agency leave it at risk of becoming ‘another toothless regulator’
A report by the Institute for Employment Rights (IER) pointed out a failure to ring-fence resources around the FWA’s expanded remit. It urged the government to introduce a robust inspection regime without advance warning to employers and establish a “credible” threat of prosecution for non-compliance, with trade unions playing a key part and having the ability to bring cases to court.

UK police arrest seven protesters near RAF base used by US
British police have arrested seven people on suspicion of supporting the banned group Palestine Action at a protest near a Royal Air Force (RAF) air base in eastern England used by United States forces. Syria to issue law 'regulating' demonstrations following pro-Palestine protest at UAE embassy
The official added that new measures related to the incident would be announced "soon", while authorities have already reinforced security around diplomatic missions, deploying additional forces. Al-Baba also suggested that some of those involved in storming the UAE embassy were found, following their arrest, to have ties to the regime of former dictator Bashar al-Assad and Palestinian groups sympathetic to it, such as the left-wing Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

Iranian Kurds deny receiving US weapons to arm Iran's protesters
Kako Alyar, a member of the Politburo of the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan, told MEE that they were not aware of the comments made by Trump. “We weren't in touch during the protests regarding giving weapons to the Kurds, and the Komala party has not received any weapons,” Alyar said.

Iranians Brace for Impact of Trump’s Threats to Target More Civilian Infrastructure
Major universities and hospitals across Tehran and other parts of the country have been hit in Israeli and U.S. attacks, raising the fear—even among Iranians opposed to the government—that the war is really about destroying Iranian society rather than achieving its stated aim of stopping the Iranian nuclear program, or diminishing the capabilities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

Trump endorses Republican Steven Hilton for California governor, reordering wide-open race
The endorsement — coming about a month before mail ballots go to voters in advance of the June 2 primary — will help Hilton coalesce conservative support in a race with no clear leader. However, Trump is widely unpopular in heavily Democratic California outside his conservative base and Trump’s backing would become a liability if Hilton faces a Democrat in the November election.

Upstate NY judge removed from bench amid charges he advised illegal eviction, deleted emails, more
Investigators found Lilley gave legal advice to landlords outside of court about how to remove tenants from a mobile home, according to the commission’s findings. He told the property owners to serve a notice to vacate and later suggested they change the locks after the tenants were gone for about two weeks. But under New York law, tenants who have lived somewhere for at least 30 days can’t be locked out without going through the court process, the commission said.

West Virginia governor vetoes help for neglected and foster kids after approving tax cuts
Between the tax cut and aligning some of the state’s business taxes with cuts made by the Trump Administration, the state will be forgoing $230 million in revenue annually. But the governor balked at the expense of providing help for foster children aging out of the system, home blood pressure monitoring to Medicaid patients or research into new drug treatment options.

Donald Trump Has Given Iran a New Deadline, Again
In times of war, leaders tend to look towards the future’s history books as they compose their letters and speeches. Regret and stoicism; conviction and sorrow; grit and greatness: these are the themes that presidents and princes strive to capture with pithy eloquence as they prepare their populations for sacrifice. So too with Donald Trump on Easter Sunday. “Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell,” he picked from the drafts, “JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.” The inspirational coffee mugs produce themselves. Dubbing this coming Tuesday “Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one”, it’s far from the first time that Trump has threatened war crimes against Iran’s civilian infrastructure (and he’s already done more than a few too). On 21 March, Tehran was given 48 hours to allow ships through the Strait of Hormuz. By 23 March, it was five days. On the 26th, it became ten. On the 30th, it was ‘immediately’, which was rolled back to 48 hours this Saturday, then 48 hours again on Sunday. Trump may have promised to bomb Iran ‘back to the stone ages’ last week, but when it comes to statecraft, it appears Washington is already there. Because, as any child will tell you, the parental leap from “I really mean it” to “I really, really mean it this time” isn’t upwards, but downwards when it comes to authority.

Why the doctors’ strike matters to all trade unionists
THE six-day strike by resident doctors in England, due to start after the Easter bank holiday weekend, raises issues that concern the whole labour movement. Doctors’ disputes are sometimes viewed at arm’s length by other trade unionists. The British Medical Association (BMA) remains outside the TUC. Doctors, unlike most NHS workers, are not part of Agenda for Change bargaining structures, which can reduce solidarity across the healthcare workforce, and their wages are relatively higher. Nor does every strike slogan — the threats to move to New Zealand for higher pay that featured on some junior doctors’ picket line placards last year, for instance — encourage sympathy from workers on lower pay with no such options. But their basic grievance is that their pay remains a fifth lower in real terms than when the bankers’ crash hit in 2008.

Exarcheia: Political Life Suffocated by State Surveillance
On February 15, residents and community associations organized an event in Exarcheia Square, aiming to reclaim the space amid the controversial metro construction. The initiative was not only directed against the project itself but also against the broader pressures of gentrification, with Exarcheia increasingly seen as one of Athens’ key attractions for tourists. This transformation has been accompanied by the rebranding of the neighborhood’s countercultural identity, now marketed through boutique-style cafés and a surge in Airbnb rentals. The gathering was festive, with crowds of people enjoying their time. Orchestras played, and people socialized around solidarity markets, with children participating in games and activities. Beyond the celebration, organizers sought to underline the square as a living political space, one historically tied to anti-fascist struggle and grassroots activism. At the end of the carnival, participants staged a symbolic act of mockery toward political power, wearing paper masks printed with the faces of politicians. As Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name” blasted through speakers, some in the crowd suddenly began pulling apart the metal barricades surrounding the metro construction site. The moment came completely unexpectedly. As the barriers gave way, the crowd erupted in cheers, caught between disbelief and excitement. For a brief moment, the square seemed reclaimed, echoing its history as a shared space of political life. The mood shifted drastically when someone in the neighborhood called the police. Riot police soon marched into the square. There was no tear gas or flash grenades this time, but their presence was unmistakably threatening as they stood watching the crowd. Gradually, the energy cooled as people became more cautious under the officers’ gaze.
