I alr have a job so I'd be the guy getting approached by the middle class suicidals at least for now. I actually interact with both segments since out of my social circle im the nerd that got into college through scholarships and tbqh has failed at making middle class college friends and still hangs out with my old hs buddies who are in the trades or amazon warehouses. So maybe one day I might have a chance to commit class suicide but I don't even know if this college shit will pan out in the first place anyways. I feel like the first issue of this strategy is how would a middle aged intellectual with no prior experience even break into some of the trades? on the other hand that would result in these cadres being disproportional made up of shit like roofers,landscapers,cooks and warehouse workers all of which are huge demographics with little to no union presence ik of.

to my mind Chibber's most important strategy concerns the total repudiation of the modern cultural left by getting rid of neoliberal identitarianism which has fragmented class struggles and returning to universalist enlightenment principles. this lays the necessary groundwork for greater class organization among wage-workers, leading to class consciousness. the role of the intellectual is to articulate via basic, common sense analytical Marxism a robust defense of socialism, emphasizing material class structures and objective economic interests

I'd argue against trying to take your Tips for a Revolution from a Jacobin writer on principle, but that would be as unfair as it is valid.

I don't criticize intellectuals for doing what they do, because it is important. But the alarm bells always go off when the argument is "intellectuals should do this, but not me of course, because I'm the person writing about it, my job is to tell you how to do it."

I'm not saying he personally would have to do it to prove it's validity. I'm saying the reasons middle class intellectuals don't act on Chibber's strategy are generally the reasons he doesn't; "intellectuals" interested in The Revolution are smart enough to come up all of the ideologically valid reasons that they need to choose not to make their own lives worse in favor of that ideology. At least he's honest in his terminology. Very few people commit suicide, and it usually accomplishes nothing significant.
