He is a high school teacher from Canada who gets called a professor for some reason. He is also a chinese dissident who made a PBS funded documentary about the anti-government movements in China in the early 2000s, for which he was not allowed back into China for a few years, but eventually patched things up somehow. His entire take on Communism is that Marxism-Leninism AKA Scientific Socialism was a movement funded by the bourgeoisie to ruin Utopian Socialism in the 1800s. He is a reformist and social democrat. He thinks the problems with Capitalism can be fixed through legal reforms. He also denies evolution, supports religion, and denies the atrocities committed by the nazis in WW2, collectively called "the holocaust", but also including their war crimes against non-Jewish groups like Slavs, Gypsies, etc.
He occasionally says correct things and people latch onto these correct things and use them to justify the whackier stuff. These correct things include identifying the US's recent war crimes

He glows from outer space. He's a graduate from Yale University which holds a deeper and more influential historical connection to the CIA than perhaps any other academic institution in the United States.
That plus the quibbles he's had with the Chinese government are enough of a red flag to completely disregard anything he says, even if accidentally accurate in rare occasions.
His sudden popularity out of nowhere is a dead giveaway. He's a disinfo agent meant to muddy political discourse.

From what I've read his theories basically come from game theory. He had used that to make some accurate predictions. He also has English training which makes him an effective communicator. But he has also made predictions that just turned out not to be true. I don't think he glows. There are other people who are like, he's a CCP agent trying to destroy Western civilization!!! But he apparently said if you gave him a billion dollars he'd invest it in Japan rather than China because Japan is better, which would be a weird thing for a CCP guy to say. I think some of this is due to the novelty factor of people not hearing one of these Chinese "teacher" figures before.

But yeah there's actually very little about him in Chinese. He wasn't some pre-existing famous Chinese guru, but he recently got some attention because he blew up in North America, so there are some articles in China trying to explain why this guy became popular all of a sudden. It seems to be about as surprising to Chinese as it is here, but the novelty factor isn't there.
