Opinion on Myers-Briggs test?
Outside its use in the corporate work i think it can have uses.
I personaly think it can help on spiritual excercises but i already wanted to know if there is a marxist critique of it
There are no such things as personalities or the individual, there is class, language, and ethnicity, that’s it, that’s who you are, the so called “inner world” is a liberal bourgeois enlightenment era myth
I don't think it's a fully Marxist critique but here's one from a labour-focused perspective:
https://citationsneeded.medium.com/episode-159-the-anti-worker-pseudo-psychology-of-corporate-personality-testing-9c6c2d5aa49eIt goes over the genealogy of MBTI, its results in corporate use, problems of the methodology, etc. Give it a listen.
It's not totally useless, in that it can be used to help someone identify their own personality attributes, strengths and weaknesses.
That said for the most part it just gets treated as horoscope tier nonsense but for men / corporate exercises.
I remember a professor talking about these popular personality tests back in college, and he mentioned that MBTI specifically is a pure fad with literally 0 empirical research behind it, and even its theoretical base lies in Jungalian pseudoscience.
I remember thinking this thing was really cool when I was young and then becoming more skeptical of it when I tested as 3 different personalities over the course of several years. These days I would say it is a metaphysical framework rather than a dialectical framework. My criticisms of it are very similar to the political compass or astrology. It assigns a static value to a person which is entirely arbitrary even though people change very requently.
