The Labour leader and his party are on course to receive a drubbing in contests for the Scottish and Welsh devolved parliaments, and in local councils. But it is not only the electorate who, rightly, despise Starmer. Nobody is happy with the current occupant of Number 10. Across the pond, Donald Trump is also fuming about the uselessness of his British counterpart. Angered by the UK government’s refusal to join his disastrous war on Iran, the American President has repeatedly lashed out at Starmer: remarking that the Labour Prime Minister is “no Winston Churchill”, and threatening to tear up Britain’s trade deal with the USA, if Washington’s normally obedient poodle does not yield to his master’s call. Of course, Starmer’s stance towards Trump’s war has nothing to do with political principles, and everything to do with political expediency. The Labour leader has repeatedly demonstrated that he is happy to grovel and fawn before his boss in the White House. But with the British public in no mood for an Iraq 2.0, Zack Polanski’s Greens breathing down his neck, and elections approaching, Starmer is calculating that a few anti-Trump noises and a dash of feigned defiance might play well with voters and backbench MPs alike.

In an attempt to soften the impression, the CPRF press office inserted the word “February” and circulated the following excerpt from its Chairman’s speech, which differs at this point from the version captured on video: “President Putin recently convened the government. I haven’t seen such a sombre and troubling meeting in a long time. He needed to hear from you, the representatives of the ruling party, why we find ourselves once again in an economic and production crisis. Yet he has received no clear answer to this question. In this regard, it does not differ in substance from other major digital capitalist companies that practice the same thing in different forms and varying degrees of openness. It is a class declaration of a project for a digital fascist alliance that relies not on traditional violence alone, but on digital surveillance and repression, data analysis, artificial intelligence, the manipulation of public opinion, and the suppression of dissent through imperceptible yet deeply impactful methods. An alliance whose crimes do not remain within elite circles and corporate offices, but extend to battlefields and the bodies of civilians, embodied today in its clearest form in Trumpism, its alliances, its crimes, and its aggressive wars.
