I think the distinctions between those two things were not clear at the time. BTW I think there's a case to be made for the Mexican Revolution as a parallel historical event to the Russian Revolution with various heroes like Pancho Villa playing a similar role to Makhno even if they're not usually thought of as anarchists or understood themselves to be that. But functionally they were. Revolutionary peasant bandits. Also:
