There's pretty much no way to prepare for survival like this. Way too many variables and the system is too delicate.
The only way to prepare for ecological/nuclear catastrophe is to be part of a big efficient group that can fight for resources and divide labour.
No number buckets full of beans in your basement or water filtration or even weapons stockpiling will allow you to withstand the raiders alone

Agree if the happening in question is complete social destruction overnight like the nuclear scenarios you're suggesting, but more often than not that's not the case even in the hantapocalypse OP seems to believe in, collapse will happen gradually over weeks at the absolute worst and likely months if we're talking about ecological events, and even then just some communities will get affected which means mass migration will be the first response and not mad max (that happens to the ones who stay)

stockpiles are still important even in a communal setting (which you will need if you want to live longer than the months the rations will give you)

read some accounts of people surviving in the ex-yu countries after the collapse of yugoslavia, sure it's smaller in scope but schizo prepper stockpiles played a part in many people's tellings and made their hell just a little less hell or allowed them to have some bargaining power, alongside guns they had to hide from the gubmint
