Cuba Defends Right to ‘Legitimate Defense’ After U.S. Media Claim Military Drone Acquisition
The Axios report, citing a senior U.S. intelligence official, claimed that Washington is analyzing the threat of drones from Cuba that could be used against the U.S. naval base at Guantánamo Bay, U.S. military vessels, or Key West, Florida. The report also mentioned the alleged presence of Iranian military advisors in Havana. Such information could serve as a pretext for hypothetical U.S. military action on the island, according to the Cuban government. The diplomatic row comes just days after an unusual high‑level meeting in Havana between CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Cuban intelligence officials.

Venezuela ‘Deports’ Former Minister, Diplomatic Envoy Alex Saab to US
The executive led by Acting President Delcy Rodríguez announced the “deportation of Colombian citizen Alex Saab Morán” through a statement issued by the Administrative Service for Identification, Migration, and Immigration (SAIME). The statement said the measure was adopted “taking into consideration that [Saab] is implicated in various crimes in the United States of America, as is publicly known and widely reported.” According to local media reports, Saab was transferred under custody from the El Helicoide detention center in Caracas to Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, where a US government airplane was waiting for him. The operation reportedly involved agents from the FBI and the CIA, under the supervision of the US Justice and State Departments.

U.S. Agencies Will Operate From Surveillance Tower in Chihuahua, Despite Recent Unauthorized CIA Presence in the Mexican State
Despite the political scandal that has raised concern about U.S. government involvement in Mexico, Chihuahua is pressing ahead with a close collaboration with U.S. agencies—with the approval of the Mexican federal government, a Chihuahua spokesperson confirmed to Drop Site this week. Representatives from five different U.S. federal agencies—the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, Homeland Security Investigations, and Customs and Border Protection—are slated to work out of the 18th floor of the new building in Juárez, known as the Centinela Tower.

Myanmar Junta’s Forced Remittance Rules Pull in $5.6 Billion
The surge follows rules enacted in 2024 that require migrant workers to remit 25% of their income through official banking channels. Failure to comply affects passport renewals and the right to work overseas, effectively securing international money flows for junta-linked banks at a time when sanctions and internal conflict have choked off other capital sources.

Activists raise alarm over 'flood' of military supplies from India to Israel
New Delhi sent Indian-made Israeli Hermes 900 drones to Israel in early 2024, and later several shipments of military equipment, including rockets. No Harbour for Genocide said recent developments showed that military shipments from India were ongoing and were fundamental for Israel to make up its shortfall of 155mm shells. Israel fired upwards of 100,000 artillery shells into Gaza and Lebanon within the first few months following the Hamas-led attacks on 7 October 2023. As early as mid-October 2023, the Israeli government asked the US to send an additional 155mm, as supplies dwindled.

ban forces Palestinians to make their own cement from rubble
Israel has barred cement and all building materials from entering Gaza since October 2023, deepening a blockade on construction imports in place since 2007. By October 2025, Unosat satellite imagery found approximately 81% of all structures in the Gaza Strip had been damaged, with more than 123,000 destroyed outright. The UN estimates the destruction generated 61m tonnes of rubble, and a joint EU, UN, and World Bank assessment puts the cost of recovery at $71.4bn (£52bn) over the next decade.

Khanna and AOC battle is "Old Bernie" vs. "New Bernie"
Khanna has taken a slightly more centrist view than Ocasio-Cortez on issues such as crime and immigration. He's hired key members of Sanders' 2016 campaign, which had a relatively moderate brand on immigration and guns — and didn't fear going negative on Hillary Clinton. AOC, meanwhile, has tapped strategists behind Sanders' effort in 2020, when the Vermont senator moved left on social issues to back policies such as decriminalizing border crossings by unauthorized immigrants, and largely avoided bashing Joe Biden.

Why Is the Labour Right Desperate to Rehash Brexit?: It’s like 2016 all over again.
For those of you a little out of puff after last week’s avalanche of Labour leadership maneuverings, remember: it’s a marathon not a sprint. Stay hydrated, folks, and find your pace, because we’ve exactly a month to go before 18 June. That’s the date now being reported (though still unconfirmed) on which the good people of Makerfield will select their new MP – and possibly the next prime minister. Forget the future, though: it’s history that’s been occupying Wes Streeting and Andy Burnham this weekend. Even though only Streeting has declared his intention to run, everyone and their dog knows they’re our current contenders for the Labour crown. That may explain why the recently ex-health secretary, very much the longshot in this race, decided to truly set le chat amongst i piccioni on Samstag. Yes, chicos, we’re Brexdebating like it’s 2016 all over again. “Leaving the European Union,” Wes Streeting told a meeting of the Labour right Progress group this weekend, “was a catastrophic mistake.” That’s quite the stall to set out when you’re pitching for the biggest job in politics. Guaranteed to turn the stomach of one chunk of the electorate, overstimulate the hope cores of another, and send the rest into a spiral of screaming pub lunch flashbacks, little could be more divisive. Were Streeting leading the Labour party to a general election tomorrow, ‘Catastrophic’ would be graffitied across his political tombstone the very next day. Of course, Streeting is not running for popular election anytime soon. But Andy Burnham probably is. The Greater Manchester mayor has, from the comfort of his northern throne, mused similarly in the past. “Long term,” he said of the EU at Labour conference last September, “I’m going to be honest, I’m going to say it: I want to rejoin it.”

China, the “Thucydides Trap” and the Illusion of “Anti-Imperialist Multipolarity”
President Xi Jinping’s invocation of the so-called “Thucydides Trap” during the recent hosting of Donald Trump was not a neutral geopolitical observation. It reflected a real and sharpening contradiction within the imperialist system: the contradiction between the dominant US-led capitalist bloc and the rising capitalist power of China. According to the bourgeois theory of the “Thucydides Trap,” war becomes likely when an emerging power threatens the dominance of an established hegemon. Borrowed from Thucydides’ account of the Peloponnesian War — where the rise of Athens generated fear within Sparta and ultimately contributed to military confrontation — the contemporary theory attempts to universalize geopolitical conflict while obscuring its historically specific social and class foundations. But Marxist-Leninists do not analyze international developments through the prism of abstract “civilizational conflicts” or vague geopolitical fatalism. The roots of the conflict lie in monopoly capitalism itself, in uneven capitalist development and in the struggle of powerful bourgeois classes over markets, energy routes, raw materials, technological supremacy and spheres of influence.

Kwame Nkrumah: African Socialism Revisited
Some African political leaders and thinkers certainly use the term “socialism” as it should in my opinion be used: to describe a complex of social purposes and the consequential social and economic policies, organisational patterns, state structure, and ideologies which can lead to the attainment of those purposes. For such leaders, the aim is to remold African society in the socialist direction; to reconsider African society in such a manner that the humanism of traditional African life re-asserts itself in a modern technical community. Consequently, socialism in Africa introduces a new social synthesis in which modern technology is reconciled with human values, in which the advanced technical society is realised without the staggering social malefactions and deep schisms of capitalist industrial society. For true economic and social development cannot be promoted without the real socialisation of productive and distributive processes. Those African leaders who believe these principles are the socialists in Africa. There are, however, other African political leaders and thinkers who use the term “socialism” because they believe that socialism would, in the words of Chandler Morse, “smooth the road to economic development”. It becomes necessary for them to employ the term in a “charismatic effort to rally support” for policies that do not really promote economic and social development. Those African leaders who believe these principles are supposed to be the “African socialists”. It is interesting to recall that before the split in the Second International, Marxism was almost indistinguishable from social democracy. Indeed, the German Social Democratic Party was more or less the guardian of the doctrine of Marxism, and both Marx and Engels supported that Party. Lenin, too, became a member of the Social Democratic Party. After the break-up of the Second International, however, the meaning of the term “social democracy” altered, and it became possible to draw a real distinction between socialism and social democracy. A similar situation has arisen in Africa. Some years ago, African political leaders and writers used the term “African socialism” in order to label the concrete forms that socialism might assume in Africa. But the realities of the diverse and irreconcilable social, political, and economic policies being pursued by African states today have made the term “African socialism” meaningless and irrelevant.
