I think a large part of why Jan 6 was able to happen was because the protestors were egged on by Trump himself, the implication being that he would look out for his supporters and come to their aid to ensure their success. He of course didn't do that on the day of the riot, but he has since taken steps to shield them from consequences. When you think the president has your back it does a lot to overcome the main psychological obstacle to any kind of radical action, which is the fear of repercussions.

No Jan 6 happened because the DC cops literally let protestors in so the protestors naturally thought they got the green signal to take over the government. It was only when the actual Capital cops pushed back that the protest stopped. And it took very few Capital cops to do so.

Went outside and saw blast remnants in atms and stores that people were using to get into safes and buildings with metal gates. I saw entire blocks burnt out. Anarchist symbols on the walls.
