If you've ever seen the TV show "Breaking Bad," you know how a background in chemistry can come in handy in the illegal production of crystal meth.

That's not just fiction, as Isaac Stone Fish, associate editor at Foreign Policy, confirms when he describes how North Korea became a major meth producer.

"A devastating famine destroyed North Korea's social fabric in the 90s," Fish says. "After that, a lot of out-of-work, or underemployed, chemists and other scientists in the eastern city of Hamhung were looking for new ways to feed their families, and they stumbled on crystal meth as a solution."

Some of that meth is consumed in North Korea. People reportedly use it for medicinal purposes and even to fend off starvation.

However, most North Korean meth is smuggled out through China. And who knows where it goes from there.

Just last week, five men were arrested in Thailand, for plotting to sell North Korean meth in New York City.

The men were flown to Manhattan for prosecution, but few details in the case have been revealed.

“All we know is what one of the ringleaders said,” says Fish. "But it’s the first example of North Korean meth sold in such large quantities appearing internationally that he’s heard about.”

So why ship it halfway around the world when there are more than enough meth labs in the US already?

Fish says according to the suspects, "they have made so-called blue crystal meth, Walter White quality so to speak, 99 percent pure.”

With that quality, it could be worth moving it from China to the US, says Fish. And, as with global trade, sometimes it’s easier and cheaper to move something from China to New York than from New Mexico.

Fish recently had the chance to bring this up with a North Korean defector, who told him that crystal meth is generally smuggled in small quantities because the Chinese frown upon this trade. If it is sent in larger amounts, then it's done with military or government support, Fish learned from the defector.

Crystal meth made in laboratories in North Korea is flooding the world's drugs market, with shipments ferried through China to distribute across the globe.

In the U.S. police officers have intercepted batches of the highly addictive drug, that were bound for New York after being produced in Kim Jong-un's Communist state.

Analysis of the highly potent drugs - which come in the form of ice-like crystals which are smoked, to provide a powerful and near-immediate hit - showed they were up to 99 per cent pure.

The drug, thrown in to the limelight by the hit U.S. drama series Breaking Bad. In the show, terminally-ill chemistry teacher Walter White turns into a drug baron to ensure his family's financial future.

North Korea is said to be in the grip of a crystal meth epidemic with the drug being produced on an industrial scale by corrupt officials in collusion with criminal gangs and the number of addicts spiralling.

Use of meth is reportedly so common in the shadowy communist state that offering some to house guests has been described as the equivalent of making them a cup of tea.

In an interview with the LA Times earlier this year one North Korean, Lee Saera, 43, of Hoeryong described how prevalent the drug has become.

She said: 'If you go to somebody's house it is a polite way to greet somebody by offering them a sniff. It is like drinking coffee when you're sleepy, but ice is so much better.'

Such is the explosion in the drug's popularity that a new word ‘munlan’ has sprung up to describe meth addicts.

Experts say the North Korean government reportedly began producing meth in the 1990s to provide desperately-needed hard currency for the ruling elite.

Mass production: A new study reveals vast quantities of crystal meth are being made for export by state-trained scientists in collusion with corrupt officials and criminal gangs in a country desperate for hard currency
Mass production: A new study reveals vast quantities of crystal meth are being made for export by state-trained scientists in collusion with corrupt officials and criminal gangs in a country desperate for hard currency

Then it was exported, mostly to China, with reports of North Korean diplomats being sent abroad with their bags stuffed full with meth.

Studies from the US and China found soaring levels of crystal meth addiction in border regions with North Korea.

As state-controlled production was curbed in the late 2000s the trade went underground with meth 'cook' criminals setting up small 'kitchen laboratories'.

The Sun reported that in 2012, police officers in the U.S. intercepted 30kg of the drug - with 99 per cent purity - that was destined for the streets of New York.

Another sting last year uncovered a plot involving 100kg of crystal meth. Two Thailand-based Britons have now been charged in New York with conspiracy to smuggle illegal drugs.

Now business is booming and as well as supplying the burgeoning domestic market, North Korean-produced meth is reportedly being exported to the West.

In North Korea drug use is widely tolerated. Cannabis is legal with many people growing it at home.

Opium paste is also widely available as a pain reliever.

Experts estimate up to 40 per cent of North Korea’s foreign earnings now come from illegal activities.

Fuck anti juche poster to death for his reactionary faggot obsession with juche poster

Mom the weird north korean meth guy is posting again

this isn't anything new and it's not unique to north korea. methamphetamine has been the drug of choice in east asia since the end of world war 2. the japanese government produced massive stockpiles of it for the war effort, distributing it to soldiers and sailors and factory workers to keep up with the extreme demands of the government's total war mobilization policy. when the war ended all the leftover stockpiles of methamphetamine flooded the civilian market and it wasn't until 1951 that the japanese government finally made it illegal and shut down production at which point the yakuza quickly moved in to fill the void. ever since then, methamphetamine trafficking has become a major market for all of the various crime syndicates operating throughout asia and the north korean government eventually got in on the act in the 1980s, possibly even earlier, as one of their many desperate attempts to bring in revenues as a perpetually cash-strapped international pariah rogue state.

K

the haters will never understand that North Korea is waging protracted people's narco hyperwar in the first world by getting white trash in the US addicted to meth, simultaneously accelerating the decline of the Amerikkkan empire while also profiting off it and extracting wealth from reactionary first world white lumpens that rightfully belongs to North Korea as reparations for the hundreds of thousands of Korean civilians who were massacred by the global imperialist death machine masquerading as a country known as the so-called United $$nakes of Amerikkka

THIS IS NOW A JUCHE THREAD

Leftists are supposed to be anti-capitalists and anti-imperialists. The DPRK is one of the remaining actually socialist countries on this planet. They are sanctioned by the Global North–that is the global capitalist hegemony in the West–to a point of desperation. The people are living in harsh conditions not because of the Juche “regime”, but because of the atrocities by the United States and its satellite states.

Thinking that the DPRK is somehow a hereditary monarchy is simply ridiculous. It also means that you are furthering Western Capitalist propaganda.

If you believe in the lies of the capitalists, you are hardly a leftist. You are simply another chauvinist helping the cause of the bourgeoisie and Amerikan imperialism.

Socialism and democracy in DPRK
=======

There is a huge notion in the western left (obviously), that DPRK is not socialist, but a state capitalist fascist monarchy.

We know how the western left is mostly racist and chauvinist towards china, dprk, vietnam etc, as it was previously with USSR and the eastern bloc.

Most of this western left is still against the USSR, but at least marxist-leninists and many anti-imperialist anarchists acknowledge them today. Many western leftists still remain in the same position against china or DPRK, however. We will address those points below.

Democracy and socialism

> norf korea no food

malnutrition was in fact a thing during the 1990s, though the portrayals of this time period, the so called "arduous march" in westen media are usually exaggerated. mostly omitted by american-allied media is the fact that those difficulties were caused by the inhumane and terrorist western sanctions and embargo against the dprk, as well as the cia-backed illegal and undemocratic dissolution of the ussr. nowadays problems regarding food security have pretty much ceased to exist in the country.

> hermit kingdom

first of all, the term itself is nothing but racist, orientalist nonsense, but whatever… the dprk is in no way a kingdom, its democratic model of governance, while obviously imperfect and worthy of (constructive) criticism, is explained in the constitution and infographic linked above.

furthermore, the county is neither "reclusive", nor internationally isolated. the dprk enjoys very friendly relations with fellow aes china, cuba, laos and vietnam, as well as anti-imperialist nations like iran, russia and palestine. the reason you dont hear much from inside the country is due to western press not wanting to report the truth.

> no lights, no electricity

the famous "no lights"-photo is a photoshopped fake initially circulated by a southern far-right tabloid. here is an actual image of east asia, including the korean peninsula:

![](https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image/dfc33eac-d1ab-4b26-a479-6457d1a9ac0a.png)

> haircut police

[unlike south korea](https://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20230412000650), the dprk never had such policies. [here](https://yt.artemislena.eu/watch?v=2BO83Ig-E8E) is a very entertaining video debunking that myth.

This isn't a fake picture. There are leftist rappers and Juche cultists from America who have actually traveled to North Korea. So ask why would anarchist and Maoist burnouts be taking flights to North Korea? Not normal tours, flew in with a tour guide who is highly tapped into the korean workers party.

The person in that photo is someone we're looking into. Aliases include Perry, Pepe (pronounced "pay-pay"). He's probably in the meth trap business with Pak Hyok, also known as David Chou, someone who was arrested for organizing an assault on conservatives with a weapon, and theft from cars as well as meth possession, attempts to smuggle north korean meth into a prison, vandalism at a protest in 2010. Pak Hyok is friends with Perry, who is in the image you call fake. The black guy in image has drug charges on his record and grew up around people who were arrested for felonies during the BLM riots, and is obsessed with malcom x, the chinese revolution, juche, and a writer behind the book called black anarchism which is basically an ex black panther anarchist calling for "all reactionary white people to be taken out". This image is mugshot of Pak Hyok, aka David Chou. Arrest record here since you idiots think "glowies" make shit up from thin air. Pak Hyok left the west coast and organized 20 vans of people who headed in the direction of NYC. We lost them. Once I go over some of these files I'll probably find out exactly where they went. most of the black power maoists are juche adjacent and always have been they believe in muh self reliance away from "oppressive whitey" and the 3rd worldism is the norm for modern american anarchists, maoists, and jucheists, so they exists in the same nihilistic mileaue of get rid of the nation leftists, their objective isnt the same as the DSA these 3 types of leftists find themselves aligned because they all want america and the western governments and way of life to go bye bye not get voted, not even to instill an american communist government, no they want to quite literally destroy the west.

One of the Juche posters that posted here, who was arrested for black radicalism was also on a trip to Pyongyang with friends who were filming music videos in north korea, getting to go into party facilities and his phone went black for most of the trip which we find odd. His nick name is Spite.

>>Kentay Demir Thomas, aka "Spite", (DOB: 11/23/89) was arrested at the Daytona Beach, Florida airport and found with an AR-15 style rifle, a .45 caliber handgun, hundreds of rounds of ammo and body armor.

>>Thomas passed out flyers in support of fellow black extremist and cop killers. Police alleged that Thomas intended to provoke an armed confrontation with police while in Daytona.

>>He was convicted on concealed weapons charges and sentenced to two years in the pen followed by five years probation.

>>Thomas had priors for possession of drug paraphernalia, assault with intent, disorderly conduct, fighting, criminal trespassing and criminal damage.

thinks its hard to become a fed. did i say i was an NBA player?

https://ice.usajobs.gov

pro tip, there's roles and tasks that wont be on the site, but when you perform the task you have well and seem like a good candidate you can be recruited to covert specialist roles I was ex marine so got in quick but i know guys that came from McDonalds to SWAT so i doubt youd have trouble.

even if you aren't a full-time federal agent, are you aware that civilians can be granted deputized authority? Joint Terrorism Task Forces (JTTFs) have the ability to deputize private citizens or nonfederal personnel as Special Deputy U.S. Marshals or task force officers, allowing them to perform federal law enforcement functions and do way more than badged up feds wink wink. Immigration authorities ICE and CBP have similar deputization powers under Section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act which allow crossdesignation of state and local personnel and in manyy cases civilian contractors that to act as federal agents for specific operations.

It's not just the fact that these are rappers traveling to North Korea. We've analyzed the content of their other tracks. The lyrics in this clip glorify violence and drug use. In the video, they appear to be under the influence. When you combine that with their subsequent arrests and the broader intelligence picture, the pattern becomes very concerning. these ragtag mobs of fruits and nuts are so delusional they hold a proactive believe that the "cia uses drill and rap music to promote bourgeoise ideas into the subconscious" so they keep music as a priority in their brainwashing campaigns but its thankfully for us it works as self-snitching.

I tend to believe that if you give someone a few prompt bans and deletions they're not going to be going to do all that VPN stuff just to post where nobody wants them, but having said that, yea, i believe it with this guy, he seems genuinely psychotic and obsessive.
Not really sure how you deal with that problem except hiring more mods to clean it up faster, discouraging him.
>>2829374
IIRC but only some mods can delete whilst others have lesser powers, so might be a case of only tools a lower level mod has.
