PMCs legally don't exist in Ukraine. They're booming anyway
Ukrainian legislation prohibits armed formations outside state control and has never recognized PMCs, even as most of the activities associated with them carry on under ordinary licenses, permits, and commercial contracts. Four years after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, the defense sector is one of the fastest-growing industries at the heart of a strained wartime economy. The gap between PMC activity and the absence of regulation has become impossible to ignore and is now on Ukraine's political agenda.

China-Myanmar Corridor
In addition to planned infrastructure, the corridor already includes operational assets. An oil pipeline and a gas pipeline running through Myanmar allow direct energy transport to China, with an estimated capacity of around 22 million tons of oil per year and 12 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually, reducing China’s reliance on maritime routes passing through the Strait of Malacca.

Federal prosecutors charge 15 people with impeding agents during Minnesota immigration crackdown
Federal prosecutors have charged 15 people with impeding the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown in Minnesota, accusing them of conspiring against the federal government through a range of actions intended to block arrests and deportations. During a news conference Tuesday, Minnesota U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen said the defendants “violently opposed the enforcement of federal law” by setting up blockades around government buildings, throwing chunks of ice at federal vehicles and “stalking” agents as they moved through Minneapolis.

In Senate Race, Michigan’s El-Sayed Hammers Message on Medicare for All
El-Sayed made the case for the program—supported by more than 100 members of the Democratic caucus in Congress as well as 78% of Democratic voters—in a video he posted on social media Monday, asking Michigan voters to imagine being diagnosed with cancer—only to realize they’ll have to drive three hours to get the nearest cancer center, like many residents who don’t live near one of Michigan’s two nationally designated, comprehensive cancer treatment facilities.

Trump-backed Collins beats Kemp’s pick to take on Ossoff for Georgia Senate
Collins’s victory is a major win for President Trump, who issued a last-minute endorsement for the staunch ally over the weeekend. Tuesday’s showdown pitted the president and Gov. Brian Kemp (R), who backed Dooley, against each other in the competitive race. Collins will now face Ossoff, who is widely viewed as the most vulnerable Senate Democrat up for election this November.

Trump ramps up Education Department’s dismantling with changes in special education and civil rights
The Department of Justice will take on enforcement of civil rights in education, while the Department of Health and Human Services will oversee special education, administration officials announced. The two agencies involved — the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services and the Office for Civil Rights — defend the rights of children with disabilities and those who experience discrimination based on race, sex or religion. Advocates worry the change could mean lapses in communication for families and school officials who need help.

Trump looms over DC mayoral primary vote as democratic socialist leads polls
For the first time in more than a decade, Washington DC will have a new mayor this year as the city faces concerns about how to address public safety, housing affordability and increased federal immigration enforcement in the district. How the next mayor handles Donald Trump is also key question on residents’ minds, with many closely watching to see if any of the president’s supporters are pouring money into the race, as well as the primaries for the city’s congressional delegate.

Wyoming local governments’ ability to collect property taxes in limbo due to uncertainty over 4% cap
Local and state officials responsible for administering Wyoming’s property tax system are in uncharted waters. A recently adopted state law has skewed assessed values across the state, creating significant disparities between how one home may be taxed compared to another down the street. The Wyoming Constitution requires all taxation “be equal and uniform” and all property be taxed at its “full value.” And it’s the constitutional duty of the State Board of Equalization to ensure equal and uniform assessment across counties.

Tudeh Party welcomes U.S.-Iran agreement, warns against "merchants of war"
The Iranian communist party argues that the country remains trapped in a state of political uncertainty despite the reported framework agreement. According to the article, Iran today finds itself "neither at war nor at peace," facing a complex combination of external threats and deep internal crises. The Tudeh Party strongly condemns the recent military aggression carried out by Israel and the United States against Iran, highlighting the devastating consequences of attacks on civilian infrastructure and warning of the dangers posed by continued imperialist intervention in the region. The article points to the bombing of civilian facilities and the threat of a broader regional conflict as evidence of the aggressive nature of U.S. policy. At the same time, the party stresses that the gravest challenges facing Iran stem from domestic conditions. Rising inflation, unemployment, poverty, social inequality and the continued erosion of living standards have placed enormous burdens on millions of workers and ordinary people. The article notes that growing labor, pensioners' and social protests demonstrate the persistence of widespread dissatisfaction with the country's economic and political situation.

The Far Right Is Fueling Racist Violence in Belfast, with State Complicity
Belfast still bears the scars of the decades-long civil and religious conflict known as The Troubles. Walking a single block, you can pass from a Republican neighborhood with tricolor flags and murals supporting Palestine and a 32-county Irish Republic, into a unionist neighborhood where Union Jacks abound and pro-monarchist slogans and images of the king are common. In the latter neighborhood, you can even find the occasional mural supporting the Israeli Defense Forces. And no wonder. Belfast’s history in the 20th century is marked by repeated attacks by unionist groups on Republican (mostly Catholic) neighborhoods, burning their homes and businesses — often with the complicity of the local police and the British army, which at the time occupied all of Northern Ireland under the pretext of “keeping the peace” between Protestant and Catholic communities. These scenes are repeating themselves. Groups of hooded individuals, largely from Unionist neighborhoods, have taken to the streets to burn homes, cars, and businesses. This time, however, the targets are not Catholic communities but members of the city’s immigrant and Roma populations. Although these attacks evoke the ghosts of earlier periods of sectarian violence, they are not isolated incidents. Rather, they form part of a broader phenomenon that has been unfolding across the United Kingdom, and in the Republic of Ireland, for several years.

Fascism, Militarism and Anarchism: A Tale of Three Ukrainians (2026)
Sholem Schwarzbard, Simón Radowitzky and Nestor Makhno were three of the most infamous anarchists to ever come out of Ukraine. What do their lives, which were lived in a different historical period and under distinct conditions from our own, have to tell us about the Russia-Ukraine war of the past couple of decades, and what does their struggle as anarchists have to tell us about the relationship between militarism and fascism? Schwarzbard’s relevance to the ongoing war was implied as recently as December of 2025, when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky bestowed an honourary name on the army’s 152nd Separate Jaeger Brigade, the reverential name in this case being that of the historic Ukrainian nationalist military leader Symon Petliura, whom Schwarzbard assassinated in France in 1926 as retaliation for mass pogroms that included the murder of almost a dozen members of his own family. Schwarzbard had also been brought up back in April of 2022, in the context of the Russian escalation of the war into a full-scale invasion, when a group of anarchists from various parts of the United States mentioned him at the end of their article titled No War But Class War: Against State Nationalism and Inter-Imperialist War in Ukraine. That article provoked a reply by a person either too slippery or too uncommitted to their own viewpoint to even bother coming up with a pseudonym. Their response, titled “In the Spirit of Sholem Schwarzbard”: Addressing Confusion about the War in Ukraine, was published that same month, in this case at the Russia-based anarchist/anti-antifascist website, Avtonom. Due to the author’s casual decision to go nameless, and the lengthy title of their piece, I will refer to them throughout this article as “the Coward,” for simplicity’s sake.
