Gaza genocide and arms company profits underpin anti-Nato protests in Turkey
The Workers Party of Turkey (TIP), a left-wing group with three MPs in the Turkish parliament, organised the Istanbul Anti-Imperialist Peace Summit to present an alternative perspective to the commonly held view in Europe that Nato is the first line of defence for the continent. "The 2026 Ankara Summit marks the threshold of a period in which the working people of Nato member states are left more vulnerable to exploitation and war, despite the forced increase in defence spending," reads the conference's pamphlet, "No to Nato", referring to a new commitment by all alliance members to increase defence spending to five percent of GDP annually by 2035.

Israeli settlers now control a fifth of the occupied West Bank
Nearly one million dunams of land, equivalent to around 1,000 square kilometres, is now under the control of settler farm outposts. The report found that settlers now control around 18 percent of the occupied West Bank, with approximately 300,000 dunams coming under their control in 2025 alone. Around 40% of that land is classified by Israel as "state land".

Unions in Europe press for new worker protections to counter heat stress
Enrico Somaglia, the general secretary of the European Federation of Food, Agriculture and Tourism Trade Unions (Effat), said: “Climate change is no longer a distant environmental challenge, it is a daily occupational health and safety risk, as well as a threat to job stability. The current European legal framework is clearly not sufficient to defend against it.” While the draft text is not a legal document, it is being taken up by sympathetic MEPs and officials as the torrid summer of 2026 forces the issue up the political agenda.

Duma Tightens Rules for Migrant Workers and Their Children in Russia
Income below that baseline or unemployment will result in the non-renewal or annulment of temporary low-skilled work visas called patents. They would then face deportation within 15 days. Migrants will also be required to pay a fixed advance income tax for themselves and each dependent. Foreign dependents will be permitted to stay in Russia for the duration of their parents’ patents. Once they turn 18, children of migrants will be required to obtain their own work patents or face deportation within 30 days.

Milei plans US-style government shutdown mechanism to cap Argentina's spending
The package also includes a reform of the central bank's charter. Milei said the bill would explicitly prohibit, with criminal penalties, the bank from financing the Treasury through money printing, a practice he considers one of the structural causes of Argentine inflation. “Fraud and currency counterfeiting are criminal offenses,” he said. The initiative seeks to reverse a 2012 reform, approved under the government of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, which broadened the bank's mandate from preserving the value of the currency toward multiple goals of employment and development. The president described the set as reforms meant to “repair 91 years of political fraud.”

Wyoming tightens wastewater rules after Meta datacenter contractor flushed contaminated water
The incident comes amid growing nationwide backlash to the construction of resource-hungry datacenters, which opponents say place unbearable demands on local water and energy supplies. According to Data Center Map, the US has almost 4,500 datacenters, some consuming up to 300,000 gallons of water each day, equivalent to the demands of about 1,000 households.

Manufactured Betrayal
On July 4, 2025, roughly a dozen people participated in a demonstration at the Prairieland Detention Center, a facility serving Immigration and Customs Enforcement. At the conclusion of the demonstration, a participant named Benjamin Song saw a police officer aim a gun at a participant named Nathan Baumann and fired warning shots at the ground in response. Since then, police have arrested 22 people on widely publicized conspiracy and terrorism charges, subjecting many of them to long-term solitary confinement and other pressure tactics. Eight defendants who chose not to cooperate with the prosecution have been found guilty and sentenced to between 30 and 100 years in prison each, with one of them receiving a 30-year sentence simply for having moved a box of zines.

Graham Platner and the fraud of “working-class” Democratic Party politics
The campaign of Graham Platner, the Democratic nominee for US Senate in Maine, is collapsing under the weight of a new sexual assault allegation, exposing not merely the personal degradation of the candidate but the political forces that manufactured and promoted him as a “working-class” tribune. On Monday, Politico published an interview with Jenny Racicot, who accused Platner of raping her in 2021. Racicot repeated the allegation later that night in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper. Platner has denied the allegation. Within hours, leading Democrats who had tolerated or excused months of earlier revelations, including his Nazi-linked Totenkopf tattoo and history as a soldier and mercenary for US imperialism, rushed to call for him to withdraw. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chair Kirsten Gillibrand called on Platner to withdraw, with the DSCC declaring it would not fund the Maine Senate race if he remained the nominee. California Rep. Ro Khanna and other endorsers withdrew support as well. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who had been Platner’s most prominent national booster and appeared with him under the fraudulent “Fighting Oligarchy” banner, waited longer than others, but by Tuesday he posted on social media that he “recommended that he step aside.” Under Maine election law, if Platner withdraws by July 13 the Democrats can select a replacement by July 27, a procedure that is now clearly being prepared. The debacle confirms what the World Socialist Web Site explained from the beginning. After Platner won the June primary, the WSWS wrote that while the vote expressed real anger over inequality, “Platner’s promoters—large sections of the Democratic Party and the trade union apparatus, most avidly its so-called ‘progressive’ wing—present him as a genuine representative of the working class. He is nothing of the sort.”

Mass movement of AAC in Pakistan-administered Kashmir defies brutal state repression to write a new chapter in history
The Awami Action Committee (AAC) in Azad Kashmir is leading a historic long march towards Muzaffarabad to press for their demands. In the last three years, these demands had been accepted by the governments of Azad Kashmir and Pakistan following previous long marches. They have not yet been implemented however. This time, the state authorities are hell-bent on crushing this mass movement through mass killings and brutal repression, and have crossed all limits of brutality by the measure of recent decades. This long march was set to start from different parts of Azad Kashmir on 9 June, and reach Muzaffarabad after passing through various cities. But the state authorities unleashed terror on 5 June, when one of the central leaders of the movement, Sardar Umar Nazir, was shot by police at a checkpost near Rawlakot. He miraculously escaped this assasination attempt, the bullet even bruising his ear, while a long-standing activist who was driving his car, Shahzeb Habib, was killed. Earlier that day, the government had labelled the AAC a terrorist organisation and had banned it. Meanwhile, the government also announced elections, despite the fact that earlier they had promised that the electoral reforms suggested by the AAC would be carried out before the elections. This was never fulfilled. On the night of 6 June, when thousands of people gathered to attend the funeral of Shahzeb Habib, in Rawlakot, paramilitary forces such as the Rangers, Punjab Constabulary and Frontier Constabulary, coming from Pakistan, indiscriminately opened fire on the gathering, killing dozens. According to the new norms set by the Pakistani state, the dead bodies from the mass killings were confiscated by the authorities and are dumped at undisclosed locations. Some reports suggest that more than 100 people were killed on this day. A curfew was subsequently imposed on Rawlakot, and anyone who broke it was shot by the security forces.
