Trump’s Board of Peace drops full Gaza recovery plan in favour of tiny pilot scheme
The pilot camp envisaged in the current blueprint would consist of portable cabins for tens of thousands of displaced people in Gaza and would be set up in the buffer zone along the ceasefire line near Rafah. Israeli troops would withdraw from the line and security at the crossing between Hamas-run Gaza and the camp would be overseen by the ISF and a specially trained Palestinian police force, officially vetted by NCAG and the ISF – though in reality Israel is expected to have a decisive say in who is recruited.

Germany may make it illegal to deny Israel's right to exist
According to the Bundesrat's proposal, "anyone who publicly, or at a public assembly, denies the State of Israel's right to exist or calls for its destruction" would be subject to criminal penalties. However, the offense would be punishable only where the conduct in question is capable of encouraging antisemitic acts of violence or other forms of discriminatory treatment. According to the explanatory memorandum accompanying the bill, the existing provisions of German criminal law — including those addressing incitement to hatred and the use of symbols associated with terrorist organizations — are insufficient.

Far-right Alternative for Germany sets out blueprint for power in Saxony-Anhalt
With the exception of the Left Party split-off, the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW), all parties have so far ruled out governing in coalition with the far right. But a change to this position has long been under discussion. Should several parties fail to clear the 5 percent threshold required for entry into the state legislature, it is mathematically possible that the AfD could win an absolute majority even if it only polls just above 40 percent of the vote.

US to impose new 25 percent tariffs on some Brazilian imports
The new tariffs on Brazil were announced late on Wednesday by the US trade representative. These mark the first set of tariffs under the White House’s new trade strategy using Section 301, a provision in existing US trade law that allows for investigations into so-called unfair trade practices, which the US then uses to justify levies imposed against a country.

City Hall gets to work on Mamdani’s new rental agenda amid landlord backlash
Some recommendations can begin without new legislation. Starting in October, HPD plans to require inspectors to attempt an inspection at every apartment associated with a non-anonymous heat complaint, rather than treating complaints from different units in the same building as duplicates. Multiple complaints from the same apartment and certain anonymous complaints may still be treated as duplicates.

Buenaventura Durruti: You don’t argue with fascism, you destroy it
Comrades: the worker militias aren’t slacking on the Aragón front. They attack and defeat the enemy and win ground for the revolutionary cause. And this is only a prelude to the great offensive that we will soon initiate across the entire Aragón front. You, workers of Spain, also have an important role to play, because we can’t win the revolution with guns alone; we also have to produce. There is no such thing as a frontline and a rearguard, because we all form one block that has to struggle in unity toward the same goal. And our objective can be none other than building a Spain that represents the working class. The workers fighting on the front and in the rearguard don’t fight to defend bourgeois privileges. They fight for the right to live with dignity. Spain’s strength is in the working class and its organizations. After victory, the CNT and the UGT will meet and come to an agreement about the country’s economic and political structures. Those of us on the battlefield aren’t fighting for medals. We don’t fight to be deputies or ministers. And when we’re victorious and return to the cities and villages, we’ll fulfill our responsibilities in the factories, workshops, fields, and mines that we left. Our great victory will be the one that we win in the workplaces.

Spain’s Social Revolution Against Fascism
The Spanish Civil War is often portrayed as a struggle between democracy and fascism. But such an approach clashes with the sociopolitical reality of Spain in the 1930s. Social, economic, and political polarization in Spain in the years leading up to the civil war, along with the resulting failure of a bourgeois-democratic republic (1931–36), led to the outbreak of both the war and the revolution. The Popular Front’s electoral triumph in February 1936, rather than ushering in a new era of social reform, laid bare the inability of Republican democracy to overcome a ruling class determined to prevent any challenge to its power. The Popular Front’s victory sparked a new wave of mobilizations by the working masses, both urban and rural, which the Republican government attempted to suppress, as it had in 1931. The Right, for its part, abandoned any hope of dismantling the republic from within and opted for a military coup.

Earthquakes devastate Venezuela: “We’ve been taken over. The revolution is lost.”
Virtually none of the infrastructure in Venezuela is built to withstand seismic waves. Multi-storey buildings pancaked, killing entire families in seconds. The worst of the destruction was localised in the eastern neighbourhoods of Caracas and above all in La Guaira and Catia La Mar, with lesser damage in neighbouring states. Physical damage is estimated to cost nearly $7 billion, with 6.8 million people directly affected. The working class immediately began to self-organise a response, the main goal being the rescue of thousands trapped under the rubble. Volunteers set up aid stations, received wounded, handed out food and water, and distributed clothing and lodging to the homeless. Unfortunately, the first few days of the rescue attempt were chaotic and disorganised due to a lack of centralised leadership. Volunteers clogged roads with vehicles, trucks and motorcycles, creating a bottleneck in the road connecting the capital and La Guaira state where much of the destruction was concentrated. Rescue aid has also poured in from all over the world. While this aid was welcome, the main shortage in the first days consisted of a lack of rescuers and heavy equipment. This proved deadly as the first 48 hours after an earthquake are the most vital for rescuing those alive and under rubble. Nonetheless, rescuers continued to save people days after the earthquake. This included a two-year-old found alive after being trapped for nearly a week. Despite these horrific scenes, and the willingness of Venezuelan people to selflessly launch a rescue attempt, the death grip of US imperialism refuses to loosen. Instead, Marco Rubio and his lackeys are using the chaos to tighten the noose.
