US strikes leave 10,000 Iranians without water as Kuwait desalination plant burns
Bahraini authorities repeatedly sounded air raid sirens, while Kuwaiti forces said they were intercepting incoming missiles and drones. Iranian state media also reported fresh damage to two bridges on the Bandar Abbas-Rudan transport route, while officials said at least eight civilians were killed in Friday's attacks in Hormozgan province. Meanwhile, senior Iranian military official Major-General Mohsen Rezaee said that Tehran would "abandon its restrained military posture" if US attacks continued.

Cuba edges toward breakdown as power cuts and US meddling push society to brink
Ever since 3 January, when the US military abducted President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela, Donald Trump has promised Cuba will fall. “Whether I free it, take it, I think I can do anything I want with it,” he told reporters at the White House in March. In its efforts to achieve this, Washington has used sanctions to destroy Cuba’s industries. Foreign companies doing business on the island, from hotel operators, airlines, miners and shipping companies, have been driven out (or in cases such as the Canadian nickel miner Sherritt, have drawn up plans to stay in by selling its interests to Ray Washburne, a former adviser to Trump).

Insurgent left candidate may spoil far right’s plans in 2027 French presidential election
Mélenchon officially launched his campaign in June with a mass rally in working-class Saint-Denis, where the left party’s Bally Bagayoko was elected mayor earlier this year. Continuing with the party’s radical legacy, Mélenchon is running on a platform of rupture, encouraging direct involvement in shaping the presidency’s program. In a letter to the French people, he singled out the climate crisis and the erosion of social and labor protections as primary drivers of declining living standards, particularly for working-class families.

Decades of denial: Death certificate for disappeared reopens Kashmir wounds
After years of the family searching for him and fighting court battles, a judge in the contested Himalayan territory declared in April what Rashid already believed: His father, Abdul Rashid Wani, was dead. It was the first such ruling among thousands of petitions for the disappeared, marking a rare recognition that many other families still don’t have of their loss. The judgement ordered the issuance of a “death certificate” and also acknowledged a police investigation that identified the army officer who took Wani into custody in July 1997.

Doctors question evidence behind Pentagon plan for testosterone screening
Hegseth has also reversed the military's long-standing flu vaccine mandate, a decision that was walked back after a flu outbreak, while the Department of Health and Human Services removed 17 members from its vaccine advisory panel and altered its vaccine recommendations. Five of six men's health experts contacted by Reuters for this story said they were puzzled by the announcement on testosterone testing and concerned it may lead to unnecessary — or even harmful — treatment.

Could a plan to build hundreds of affordable apartments in Jersey City be a model for the state?
Hudson County Executive Craig Guy is using a small, $570,000 loan to develop plans for transforming a set of publicly owned parking lots in Jersey City into 700 new apartments, including over 200 homes that would stay affordable in perpetuity. The county will remain the landlord. Guy said his office plans to partner with private entities to manage the property after it is built.

Statement of the Tudeh Party of Iran: War Crimes of US Imperialism in the Third Military Aggression against Iran and the Necessity of Confronting the Destructive Policy of “War, War Until Victory”
Dear Compatriots! Once again, the destructive war imposed by US imperialism has placed our homeland in serious danger. The brutal attacks by American military forces on Iran, targeting civilian areas such as communication bridges, railway lines, and airports, as well as attacks on wheat storage silos in Hoveyzeh County, the attack on the mineral water production plant in the Musian district of Dehloran County, and the attack on the Chabahar maritime watchtower, aimed at disrupting the provision of aid to fishermen and undermining the security of maritime trade, are, according to international law, examples of war crimes committed by American imperialism. These crimes have resulted in the deaths and injuries of a large number of our compatriots in the attacks of recent days. The latest round of American military attacks on Iran marks a new stage in imperialism’s policy in the region, a policy that aims to completely control the Strait of Hormuz and key waterways in the region to secure the strategic interests of imperialism and Israel. It is clear that the warmongers in Washington and their allies in the criminal Israeli government opposed any agreement between Iran and the United States from the very beginning and want a destructive, attritional war with Iran to destroy our country’s infrastructure. Another great danger of these conflicts could be that they provide a pretext for US imperialism’s military operations against Iran and the occupation of parts of the oil regions and the south of the country.

Private Equity Is Taking Over Your Veterinarian
The list of PE depredations goes on and on, from exacerbating the housing crisis to provoking health care bankruptcies to jeopardizing the airplane repair business and fire truck manufacturing (some critics claim that PE consolidation of the emergency vehicle market played a part in worsening the 2025 Los Angeles fires). It’s fair to say that PE’s touch is a disgusting inversion of King Midas’s. While everything he touched turned to gold, for consumers, everything PE touches turns to shit. Last year, private equity put Canada’s oldest retailer into the ground. Years before, foreign capital had started sniffing around Canadian health services, looking to import the American model across the forty-ninth parallel at scale. The strategy was simple: big capital would enter the market by buying up practices in the fields of dental care, optometry, and pharmacy and turn them into chains obsessed with maximizing profit and minimizing service. Nothing is out of bounds. If all this was not bad enough, PE has recently turned its dead-eyed gaze on our pets. The private equity push into health care services throughout Canada and the United States has included veterinary medicine. This means that not even humanity’s best friends will be safe from the vultures who will never have to worry about whether they can afford to take their beloved pet — or, rather, pay someone else to do so — to receive the care it needs.

J. V. Stalin: Marxism and the National Question V. THE BUND, ITS NATIONALISM, ITS SEPARATISM
Bauer explains the impossibility of preserving the existence of the Jews as a nation by the fact that "the Jews have no closed territory of settlement." This explanation, in the main a correct one, does not however express the whole truth. The fact of the matter is primarily that among the Jews there is no large and stable stratum connected with the land, which would naturally rivet the nation together, serving not only as its framework but also as a "national" market. Of the five or six million Russian Jews, only three to four per cent are connected with agriculture in any way. The remaining ninety-six per cent are employed in trade, industry, in urban institutions, and in general are town dwellers; moreover, they are spread all over Russia and do not constitute a majority in a single gubernia. Thus, interspersed as national minorities in areas inhabited by other nationalities, the Jews as a rule serve "foreign" nations as manufacturers and traders and as members of the liberal professions, naturally adapting themselves to the "foreign nations" in respect to language and so forth. All this, taken together with the increasing re-shuffling of nationalities characteristic of developed forms of capitalism, leads to the assimilation of the Jews. The abolition of the "Pale of Settlement" would only serve to hasten this process of assimilation. The question of national autonomy for the Russian Jews consequently assumes a somewhat curious character: autonomy is being proposed for a nation whose future is denied and whose existence has still to be proved! Nevertheless, this was the curious and shaky position taken up by the Bund when at its Sixth Congress (1905) it adopted a "national programme" on the fines of national autonomy.
