Yeah one complication is that left/right in Israel has kind of changed meaning as well, because the old-style Labor Zionists could also be very warlike but they were also quite socialistic in their economic policies. The big wars from the late 40s-70s were waged by Labor Zionist governments. Then Israel neoliberalized, and the left came to mean more of a Camp David accords "peace" camp and what to do about the occupied territories and settlements, and then that collapsed in the 2000s so everyone is a chud now except for a minority of boomers who read Haaretz.

On Jewish emigration. In the 19th century few Jews lived there, and the ones who did were a few thousand religious fanatics living in a slum in Jerusalem. It picked up to around 30,000 by the end of the century as some Russian Jews moved there after the People's Will blew up Alexander II which kicked off pogroms in Russia. Most Russian Jews (in the Russian Empire that is) went to America at this time, but a smaller number went to Palestine. It was not many but the population in the "Yishuv" (the Jewish community in Palestine) tripled. Then America tightened up immigration in the 1920s, the Nazis came to power in the 1930s, and roughly half of Germany's Jewish population moved there, which could've been 300,000 people.
