How are the right and the left both pouncing on the EU at the same time dude? Fuck my uyghur life, shit's so over. Supranational governing bodies formed by consensus are never going to work.

Horse shoe theory.

the left are desperate for "wins" so they like to imagine that far-right anti-EU movements are actually "wins" for them. see all the "lexit" cope despite the Brexit process being handled by right-wingers every possible step of the way. (but a future labour government could now renationalise things if it wanted to! if it did that before, the EU commission would send it a strongly worded letter if they were too forgetful to structure it in the obvious cut-out way the EU allowed for this kind of nationalisation to go ahead.)

oh, also, this lets them substitute a hard problem for an easy one. if the anti-EU far-right movement is a coalition of lumpen, petit bourgeoise, insane Americans, and other nasties, that's very scary indeed. but if you imagine it's the seething proletariat finally having had enough of neoliberalism then you can imagine that all you've got to do is redirect their resentment from foreigners and Europe towards the bourgeoisie, perhaps by promising a national form of socialism…

Same anon that made the thread jacking off the eu? Good, rope yourself.

Death to the EU may the Garden be invaded by the jungle

Living to witness this protracted collapse is already my own personal hell.

Maybe if the supranational governing body was any good it would work.

Maybe it could even govern if every single attempt over the last couple decades to give it the powers to actually do so wasn't repeatedly vetoed by one member state or another.
