>Broke with Lenin's militant atheism and began to reconcile with the Russian Orthodox Church
>Hated abstract art and promoted "socialist realism" over the avant-garde of the Proletkult
>Recriminalized homosexuality under the pretext of increasing the birth rate
Stalin sucked compared to his predecessor.

Both of these rocked, actually.

Nah using politics to leverage petty aesthetic or lifestyle gripes is for losers

>>2904837
The Russian Orthodox Church was and is merely a puppet of whoever rules Russia.

>>2904912
Abstract art is individualistic trash. Homosexuality as a political identity is false consciousness.

>I hate art and let woke 1 annoy me into homophobia

Stalin was the type of guy to call himself a dialectical thinker while thinking dialectics is when "thesis + antithesis = synthesis."

He thought he could dialectics being reactionary and being revolutionary together.

It looks more complex and substantial than that to me.

Socialist realism was just the skills and resources of the art industry under control of the workers, believe it or not abrstract art meant nothing to most Soviet people because its elitist and you need a degree to understand (and even once you understand you probably aren’t going to like it, I imagine most art students only pretend to like it because they’ve sunk so much time into it)

Capitalist art also adresses the lowest common denominator to reache the masses in the era of mass consumption which makes our society artistically AES

>stalin did this or that
Stalin was a secretary. He signed off on whatever the politburo decided
He had to submit his proposals for vote just like everybody else
It's just that he had a lot of populist clout, that's all

The lament of proletkult is all fake anyway.
Instead of having artistic cliques, they just centralized cultural prpduction. The constructivists kept working and making stuff, it's just that it wasn't that popular in the fine arts, but found some use in print.

Also, constructivism had its ultimate victory with the ugly ass khruschevkas, because they were allegedly cheaper than socrealist stalinkas

>Broke with Lenin's militant atheism and began to reconcile with the Russian Orthodox Church
He did that in 1943 in order to dissuade the ROC from collaborating with the Nazis. After the war was over he immediately resumed the suppression of religion.

Wdym?

Who’s “they” do you mean the Soviets under the prolekult era or socialist realist era?

>constructivists kept working and making stuff, it's just that it wasn't that popular in the fine arts, but found some use in print.

Right, I’m not against constructivism, I actually like it personally I just don’t think that artists should use infinite amount of time, effort, and tools for distribution for what amounts to playing around with paint if you know what i mean, of course doing it recreationally in your own time with consumer paints is a different thing
