No, Capital is far too dense for a novice, since it also requires secondary reading from previous writers, such as Smith and Ricardo. I would recommend Marx's "Wage Labour and Capital" (1847), and "Value, Price and Profit" (1865) as introductory texts, as well as Engels' "Synopsis of Capital" (1867), which attempts to summarise major points within the text. For other summaries, there is Carlo Cafiero's "Karl Marx's Capital" (1879) although it can be too indulgent. After getting the gist, you can read "Critique of the Gotha Programme" (1875) which offers a simple case of how Marx envisioned the basic functions of a Communist society.

Please please PLEASE for the love of god do not read anything Marx or Engels wrote until you read the German Ideology (at least Feurebach) and UNDERSTAND IT. You will have a completely confused understanding of what Marxism is.
