UPS worker Paul Roberts killed on the job 13 days before retirement
Paul Roberts, a 63-year-old UPS worker with 44 years of service, was struck and killed by a company vehicle while on duty at the company’s Customer Care Center in Earth City, Missouri, outside St. Louis, on the night of September 4. Roberts died at the scene. He was due to retire September 17, just 13 days later.

Federal judge restricts warrantless immigration arrests in Southern California
In a preliminary injunction granted Sept. 2 and unsealed Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong said the government must consider the “totality of the circumstances known to the agent or officer” regarding a person’s likelihood of escape before making a civil immigration arrest without a warrant.

It's illegal for federal law enforcement to be at polling places — and there are limits on how close local authorities can be — but when asked about ICE at the polls, President Trump said in May he'd "do anything necessary to make sure we have honest elections." Earlier this month, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said ICE agents could be at polling places if they were serving an immigration warrant. "We would be engaging in malpractice if we didn't prepare for the concern [about ICE agents showing up at polls] and we didn't address it," New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver told Axios.

Over 400 alleged Michigan Jewish Democratic and independent voters signed a pledge in late August to vote for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rogers, igniting a controversy and generating questions about whether Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed was losing critical support among a group that typically votes blue by about a 2:1 ratio. But a Drop Site review of signatories in the “Michigan Jews Against Extremism” campaign finds many of the Jewish community leaders involved have deep ties to the GOP, as well as to pro-Israel activist groups such as AIPAC. Nearly 50 were involved in a nearly identical gambit in 2012 that went by the name “Jews for Mitt.” Then-President Barack Obama, the group argued, was so “anti-Israel” that their consciences drove them to abandon the Democratic Party to support Republican nominee Mitt Romney. Among those who signed both the Romney and Rogers pledges are six members of the Schostaks, a politically powerful family behind a major Michigan development company. Bobby Schostak, the former head of the Michigan Republican Party, signed the Jews For Mitt pledge, but this time did not pretend to be a Democrat—he now serves as the Rogers campaign’s finance chair.

On January 3 of this year, the US carried out a military assault against Venezuela and kidnapped the de facto President of the Republic, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife, Cilia Flores, while indiscriminately murdering Venezuelan and Cuban personnel who were serving as presidential guards. The Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) immediately condemned this action as an act of cowardly imperialist aggression, completely contrary to international law. Likewise, we denounce the absence of a military response by the Venezuelan state in defence of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, which were violated by the attack by US military forces and the subsequent daily presence of foreign officers and troops on our territory. The Venezuelan people thus saw for themselves their vulnerability in the face of a foreign power’s ambitions and the state’s inability to guarantee sovereignty and national security. The defiant rhetoric against imperialism and the promises to defend the homeland, “even with our lives, if necessary,” ultimately proved to be empty rhetoric from a leadership that, shamefully, places Venezuelan territory and its natural resources at the service of the interests of the tyrants of the North. This confirms our long-standing accusations regarding the nature of the [ruling] United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

With the rallying cries of the democratic-bourgeois camp ringing hollow and nonreal, it is the those branded as the “Far-Right” which demonstrate the most convincing grasp on reality. The gears of Democracy thus turn for them slowly, and they wait idly by, doing nothing, watching the liberal machine hallucinate and sputter for life. The liberals do not look right, they must consider, because they can no longer recognize the fronts they attack and defend. Democracy provided the foot-soldiers, the AI bubble and the sky-high rents, but these liberals have seemingly now accosted Democracy as Monarchy, or even Fascism! Now as these liberals seek to overturn Fascism, our Rightist truly becomes the last defense of Democracy. Should a real “Fascism” emerge from these conditions, we can’t say much that hasn’t been said. As Gilles Dauvé put it almost 50 years ago, it is not a question of “Fascism Or Democracy”, but “Fascism And Democracy”. There at the march against nonreal Monarchy, we are little more than Democrats and Fascists ourselves, marching spectacularly on Rome and the halls of power, for the preservation of both. Regardless of ideological bent, it is mass-political technique which produces the same motions through all of those at this march. Lines continue to blur, and a duo of Democratic and Fascistic camps emerge. Yet in the interim, either camp represents both movements. The avant-garde of the counter-revolution are those most cunning savants of capital, who have not only managed to demolish the Communist movement, but grab hold of it so as to define the Communist movement. Those that define it have unanimously encouraged their organizations to attend and radicalize these Blackshirt dry-runs. It is ironic that as they flock in droves to provide the petit-bourgeois spectacle a political alternative, these organizations will damn the Left itself with no choice at all. To participate in the mass politic, to enmesh ourselves in the development of American fasci, or to die trying. We will meet the workers, or rather at these marches the upper semi-proletarians and small business owners where they are at, and strengthen a new, more Democratic and more Fascist Republic.
