Thousands protest in France against bill expanding protections for police use of force
Politicians, rights groups and other activists joined the Paris demonstration, among them Mathilde Panot of the hard-left France Unbowed (LFI) party. "The police kill already," Panot told the crowd, calling for the bill to be voted down in the Senate. "In the Republic there can be no organised police impunity," she added. "In the Republic, there cannot be a category of citizens who have the right of life or death over other citizens."

Nothing ‘to be ashamed of:’ EU’s center-right clashes with Socialists over far-right votes
He added he is against putting up a firewall to keep out far-right forces “because it leads into badly behaving kids on the other side of the fence.” “We should go beyond that. On some issues, I think that they [the far right are relatively sane. On some other issues, there’s insanity,” he added, while insisting a majority of votes in Parliament will involve the mainstream parties.

Many Democrats Are Avoiding Kamala Harris. Abdul El-Sayed Is Welcoming Her.
The visit has the potential to be mutually beneficial for both Ms. Harris and Dr. El-Sayed. For Ms. Harris, the trip will be a high-profile appearance in a top Senate race. Dr. El-Sayed is also one of her party’s leading pro-Palestinian figures, which could help her move beyond the Biden administration’s support of Israel during the war in Gaza, an approach that became unpopular with many Democratic voters.

DoorDash to pay $131.5 million to resolve New York City probe over delivery workers' pay
DoorDash will provide nearly $115 million of relief to about 264,000 workers, whom it calls Dashers, with a median payout of about $48. It accepted a $16.7 million civil fine. While these mistakes weren't intentional, that doesn't make them okay."

Apartment landlords face big payments in $2 trillion debt
Simply put, landlords went in too deep and as the inventory they were investing in became a glut on the market — especially at the higher end — they were left with apartments that weren’t being rented out. According to the Wall Street Journal, banks aren’t showing a lot of wiggle room at this point. So it’s likely landlords will need to sell some of these properties to their creditors or there could be foreclosures if the landlord cannot meet their responsibilities.

[IWW Archives] The Secret History of Tree Spiking
In May, 1987, sawmill worker George Alexander was nearly decapitated when a tree-spike shattered his sawblade at the Cloverdale Louisiana-Pacific mill in northern California. This grisly accident sent shock waves through our community, and eventually led Northern California Earth First! to renounce tree spiking. Southern Oregon and Southern Willamette Earth First! joined us, as well as a few Earth First!ers from Stumptown, but that's all. The rest of Earth First! still endorses spiking, and many of them even today react to our no-spiking policy by denouncing us as traitors and dismissing us as wimps, without ever considering the reasons for our actions. Because of this, because there are so many new Earth First!ers who don't know this history, I think it is time to re-examine the issue of tree-spiking. A few years ago, George Alexander and his wife Laurie agreed to talk to me about the 1987 incident. The following account is based on my conversation with them.

On the attitude of the Communist Parties towards inter-imperialist contradictions and imperialist alliances: Makis Papadopoulos member of the Political Bureau of the CC of the KKE
As it happens every time in History, the period of preparation for a great imperialist war increases the need for a substantive discussion, dialogue and theoretical, political struggle within the ranks of the communist movement, in order to formulate an effective revolutionary strategy. Objectively, critical and complex issues are at the center of the discussion, which require investigation and clear answers from each Communist Party. Issues such as: The attitude of communists towards inter-imperialist contradictions and imperialist wars. The attitude towards existing and emerging imperialist alliances, the Euro-Atlantic and the emerging Eurasian axis. The position towards the socialist character of the revolution in our time, that is, in the epoch of transition from capitalism to socialism. The stance of the Communist Party towards social democracy and the rejection of participation in or support for bourgeois governments, as well as towards cooperation with bourgeois political forces in "anti-fascist fronts" to defend bourgeois democracy.
This is a demanding discussion concerning the laws of socialist revolution and construction, in which the Communist Party of Greece consistently participates, presenting its positions and elaborations, with a view to contributing to the defense and creative development of Marxism-Leninism in contemporary conditions.

The End of Rojava: Kurds in Northeast Syria Face an Uncertain Future Amid Integration With Damascus
Faded photographs of the dead line the walls of Fadia Ismail’s home in Hasake province, Syria—images of martyrs who died in the long quest for a Kurdish homeland. Her son’s image is among them. Dalil was killed fighting ISIS in the flat desert of Al-Omar oilfield in 2017 when he was just 29. Dalil “died for Rojava,” she said in reference to the Kurdish-led political project in northeast Syria that gained de facto autonomy in 2012. But now, as Syria’s president pushes to integrate the Kurdish community of the northeast into a unified Syria, the dream of Rojava as a self-governing Kurdish state has all but come to an end. “All of our martyrs have been betrayed. All the blood we shed and for what?” she raged. “What did Dalil die for?” On August 25th, the Autonomous Administration of North East Syria (AANES), also known as Rojava, and its military component, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), formally dissolved after more than a year of negotiations between the SDF and the new Syrian government led by Ahmed al-Sharaa. The talks ended when a surprise offensive by the government in January forced the SDF into accepting an integration agreement into a Syrian state. But many Kurds who spoke to Drop Site are fearful of rejoining a wider Syrian state that had previously marginalized and discriminated against them for decades under the Assad regime. As the sun set on Gerbawi village in the countryside of Qamishli, Fadia and her husband enjoyed the cool twilight air on their porch. “There is no integration. This is the imposition of defeat,” she said as she swatted at flies landing on the brim of her teacup. “Alongside Dalil, how many other lives were lost to capture Al-Omar oilfield? We lost it overnight.” “We have lost our chance at a better future.”
