Revolutionary Communist Youth Union (Bolsheviks) denounces State Duma elections as a bourgeois farce The Revolutionary Communist Youth Union (Bolsheviks), RKSM(b), has denounced Russia’s September 18–20 State Duma elections as a political farce serving the interests of the ruling capitalist class, rejecting both support for the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) and called for so-called “protest voting.” In a statement issued ahead of the elections, the Central Committee of RKSM(b) condemned the ongoing war, which it characterized as imperialist, and its devastating consequences for the working people. It pointed to mounting economic difficulties, deteriorating living standards, military casualties and growing repression, accusing the Russian bourgeoisie of exploiting the war to intensify nationalism, suppress dissent and strengthen its grip on political power.

Last week, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei publicly said we need to slow down AI development because security risks are becoming too high. This is a euphemism for the risk of a catastrophic event, one that would wipe out millions, if not humanity as a whole. This statement follows a public warning by one of Anthropic’s top researchers, Jacob Coxon, who resigned from the company, claiming that “without international coordination we will incur a risk of causing human extinction.” Asked by NBC News whether he “truly believed that AI can kill us all in less than a next decade,” he was blunt and clear: “Yes, I do. And it’s not just me. Many people working in the industry, including … executives, senior researchers, all genuinely believe that there’s a substantial probability that this technology could kill everyone.” Hundreds of other AI researchers and trainers have been sounding the alarm. In August, more than 1,300 employees from top AI companies signed a letter requesting regulation to “pace the frontier” — that is, slow down the development of new, more powerful models — but mass media largely ignored the issue until Coxon’s viral statements on X. This was followed by a flood of social media posts from AI researchers and developers, sparking panic among readers and commentators. After Amodei called for a slowdown last week, Sam Altman, Elon Musk, and Demis Hassabis endorsed the call. A Wall Street Journal article notes that advances in AI capabilities drastically accelerated for both Anthropic and OpenAI in the lead-up to the companies’ filing for an IPO — which they did last week. The association is clear: in an attempt to attract potential investors, both companies rushed to develop increasingly powerful AI models, in something akin to an arms race, not only against Chinese companies but also among themselves. In their rush to win the race, safety measures fell by the wayside, setting the stage for a predictable incident.

Above the reader will find a reprint of the former[1] and a translation of the latter theses.[15] This is practically the first time that the question has been presented so extensively in the international field: it was raised only in respect of Poland in the discussion carried on in the German Marxist journal Neue Zeit twenty years ago, 1895–96, before the London International Socialist Congress of 1896, by Rosa Luxemburg, Karl Kautsky and the Polish "independents" (champions of the independence of Poland, the Polish Socialist Party), who represented three different views.[16] [see The Rights of Nations to Self-Determination] Since then, as far as we know, the question of self-determination has been discussed at all systematically only by the Dutch and the Poles. Let us hope that the Herald will succeed in promoting the discussion of this question, so urgent today, among the British, Americans, French, Germans and Italians. Official socialism, represented both by direct supporters of "their own" governments, the Plekhanovs, Davids and Co., and the undercover defenders of opportunism, the Kautskyites (among them Axelrod, Martov, Chkheidze and others), has told so many lies on this question that for a long time there will inevitably be efforts, on the one hand, to maintain silence and evade the issue, and, on the other, workers' demands for "direct answers" to these "accursed questions". We shall try to keep our readers informed of the struggle between the trends: among socialists abroad. This question is of specific importance to us Russian Social-Democrats; the present discussion is a continuation of the one that took place in 1903 and 1913[17]; during the war this question has been the cause of some wavering in the thinking of Party members: it has been made more acute by the trickery of such prominent leaders of the Gvozdyov or chauvinist workers' party as Martov and Chkheidze, in their efforts to evade the substance of the problem. It is essential, therefore, to sum up at least the initial results of the discussion that has been started in the international field. It will he seen from the theses that our Polish comrades provide us with a direct answer to some of our arguments, for example, on Marxism and Proudhonism. In most cases, however, they do not answer us directly but indirectly, by opposing their assertions to ours. Let us examine both their direct and indirect answers.
