Do nothing, win? It genuinely does not matter whether they call themselves MLs or MLMs; though the MLMs, by their own logic, tend to break from this more often than MLs. The question is what it is about Marxist-Leninists in the modern world that leaves them mired in inaction, or in vague gestures toward organization. Nearly every American ML or MLM organization has, in essence, denounced the George Floyd uprisings. Not on the surface level, but when you dig thru the layers of their statements, texts, and interviews you observe this. I have read deeply into their positions, they critique the failures, the liberal NGO elements, and so on, but then they also shun the "riots," labeling them adventurism and spontaneity "no different than playing into the fears of the far-right" yet their entire existence, and the name Lenin itself, carries that same charge. Ask them for the alternative and they vaguely say "organize," but look inside and you find that by this they mean a milieu of petty-bourgeois, highly educated intellectuals endlessly discussing theory, liberal activism, and elections. Why should the real working class and its movements interact with these types? Why should we take them seriously when they tell those of us who are suffering not to directly defend ourselves from attackers, not to directly resist the daily misery of capitalism, not to directly expropriate and survive while striving for our freedom? Especially when these people can afford the comfort to happily exist and organize their entire lives away without any revolutionary fervor or action disrupting daily life.
Another pathetic error these Leninists tend to make is the belief that meaningful action must be placed on pause until their particular organization has grown to some predetermined threshold, a position that is flawed on so many levels, even by the standards of Marxist-Leninism itself. Not to mention that there exist multiple organizations simultaneously convinced of this same logic, each one waiting for its own numerical vindication while the conjuncture burns. And the way they build their party is indistinguishable from how a hopeless Jehovah's Witness builds their faith, wandering around events with outdated zines and newspapers that very few people will ever read, mistaking the ritual of distribution for the work of accumulation, and mistaking their own perseverance for evidence of correctness. It never amounts to anything more than sad, isolated preachers who never develop or champion legitimate action.
