made a thread about this last year, but this mindset (which ill call wokeism for brevity) is simply the natural path to leftism now.

before neoliberalism, revolutionary socialism/leftism got people involved because it reflected their daily reality. now, socialism, let alone seizing the means of production is hard to imagine for anyone who didnt grow up pre 80s since now only has manufacturing/production in all aspects become impossible to visualize without studying it (vs just knowing that theres a soap factory nearby) but also the death of community has made even starting any form of radical movement (left or right) practically impossible

so now the main aspect of the leftism is no longer rejecting the material conditions proles, but is empathy instead. and you cant really blame them, theyve got nothing else to hold onto, its all turned to air

don't get me wrong, radlibs and idpol people are stupid as hell and deserve to be mocked, but they are not the reason the workers movement took a hit, capitalism, israel, the cia and big tech are the reason.

main character syndrome dipshits exist in every political camp and will just adjust to whatever jargon is being used in whatever given political movement. imho alot of the time the problem self corrects cuz well adjusted people will eventually get sick and tired of them and cause them to switch up they're entire political ideology every couple years to glom onto a new org or movement to make all about them. People like picrel will just have a "why I left the Left" article when people finally get tired of them and they're maga equivalents will just go to the anti-trump republican grift. If someone carries themselves like the way your describing OP they're also going to have completely different ideology in about a year or two since their own actual firm belief is that they're hot shit and us plebs just haven't realized it yet.

By recognizing that this was posted on twitter (aka Chud LinkedIn) by someone that is posting for non-business reasons, and thus is principally right-of-center.

If this person was a leftist in any meaningful sense they would have moved to fedi, got into digital grass touching, and would only use twitter for porn or keeping up with their VTuber oshi, if at all.

Are they really a problem or is their apparent prominence a sign of the left's historically weak position where they are not drowned out by regular ass people? I also wonder to what extent the prominence of these people is exaggerated by the right, especially on social media, to embarrass the left.

Part of the difficulty is that a lot of this stuff isn't even properly political to begin with. The people involved appear super-political but they're also… not? Because they're primarily concerned with personal morality, lifestyle / consumer choices, etc. etc. etc. which we've already talked about to death.

They do that, yeah. She has been getting some attention because she was one of these people harassing a failing lesbian/queer bar in Massachusetts for allowing people in without wearing masks. There was some online harassment campaign by assorted crazy people about how the bar wasn't living up to revolutionary praxis (or something to that effect), then a local newspaper published an article about it, and it went viral because it read like an absurd Portlandia sketch.

You'd think so, but one way in which this can (and imo has) been disruptive to the left is that it's a constant wrench in the gears of any socialist intelligentsia. Obviously ordinary workers aren't going to bother with this nonsense, but the movement will still need an intellectual wing which will most likely be drawn from the educated middle strata. Unfortunately those people are the most likely to actually take this sort of nonsense seriously, and the most likely to allow it to become a real obstacle to organizing or theoretical clarity. That in turn prevents the integration of an intellectual vanguard with its natural proletatian base.
