listening in on a podcast's call-in part made me realize just how fucking stupid a ton of them are. When you listen to them come in one after another in procession, the veneer of legitimacy starts dropping fast. They make the same bad, stupid arguments over and over, many of them don't even seem to coherently understand their own arguments. You start realizing many of them are actually closer to being programmed to say certain things in response to certain stimuli moreso than actually thinking about things. When they keep coming in and using the same lines, over and over.

liberals and rightoids are both different products of the same thing: having to rationalize one's position in the economy in the face of it being a product of exploitation. They are human beings at the end of the day, most humans don't like hurting other people directly.
Most people want to wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and see a more or less good person. The natural response to the stress of their underlying economic reality of exploitation in terms of the domestic economy and imperialist foreign policy that makes civilization hum is rationalizing these things. The people who have it good have to deserve it, at least mostly. the people who have it bad also have to mostly deserve it. Even if the system isn't perfect they can rationalize that by believing it's still better than any possible alternatives, or that the attempt to realize the alternative is more immoral than trying to reform it slowly if at all.
So conservatives and liberals aren't stupid necessarily, they are weak. They put their lifestyle first at a huge and gruesome expense to humanity and their politics is an exercise in justifying that, that's all. Fascists are just similar people who attempt to find morality in being honest about this when the usual excuses no longer satisfy.

I think the solution is to immerse people who are psychologically conservative in a socialist society long enough they reflexively defend it because it's "normal". That might take a full lifetime though, like it would only work on people who were born within the system, not before it. I'm not sure there's any saving current reactionaries.
