Lapid says young Israelis backed killing 'everyone' in Gaza
Speaking in the interview, Lapid described the exchange as painful and deeply troubling. "I had a painful meeting with a group of very young people, and I heard from them all those statements calling for killing everyone and claiming that there are no innocents," he said. When asked "Even babies?", he said the group replied: "Babies too, because eventually they will grow up and become terrorists."

US sends third aircraft carrier to Middle East amid stalemate in Iran war
The deployment, which includes a specialist amphibious attack group, underscores the rapidly evolving dynamic of Trump’s war against Iran as midterm elections in the US loom large. Trump has threatened that a post-midterm election escalation remains a viable option – despite his initial promises that the war would last a matter of weeks.

Kandahar governor denies hosting militant leaders’ talks on attacks in Pakistan
Sharif alleged at a televised news conference on Thursday that members of several militant groups had met in Kandahar on Aug. 26. He said the meeting was attended by members of the outlawed Baloch Liberation Army, or BLA, an ethnic separatist group fighting for an independent Balochistan; al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent, or AQIS, the global militant network’s South Asian affiliate; and the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, an independent Pakistani Islamist militant network rooted in North Waziristan.

Palestinians from Gaza rebuild in Mexico City through food
Abed is one of roughly 160 Palestinians living in Mexico, part of the nearly 1.9 million people displaced from their homes since the war in Gaza began in 2023. Most remain in the territory and many of those who left have resettled in neighboring Egypt and Jordan. But a tiny fraction have made their way to Mexico, helping to roughly double the country's Palestinian population since 2022, according to official figures.

Bolivia jails prosecutor investigating Trump operative Cerimedo on Washington’s orders
Bolivian police arrested Attorney General Roger Mariaca late Wednesday night at Viru Viru International Airport in Santa Cruz, less than 48 hours after the Trump administration revoked his US visa and accused him of taking bribes from drug traffickers. Mariaca was leading the case against Fernando Cerimedo, the Argentine political operative tied to Donald Trump’s inner circle. After serving as Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz’s top adviser, he has been jailed since August, accused of ordering the murder of his former partner.

Greens to Announce Plan for ‘Emergency Brake’ on Rent Hikes
Green party leader Zack Polanski will set out plans for a three-year emergency brake on rent hikes to give renters “breathing space”. The move would limit rises to whichever is lowest between Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation, wage growth or 2% – echoing existing metrics for pensions, which currently increase by the highest of either inflation, wage growth or 2.5%.

No breakthrough on Drumcree parade dispute
This followed the failure to find a deal after more than two hours of talks on Thursday night between members of Portadown Orange Order and the Garvaghy Road Residents Coalition (GRRC) with Northern Ireland Secretary Sir Chris Bryant at Hillsborough Castle. Pamalakaya condemns 11th CMO Battalion's fake surrender campaign in Navotas City
During the activity, the residents were made to swear an “Oath of Allegiance to the Government of the Republic of the Philippines,” in which they supposedly withdrew their “support for the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG).” Pamalakaya-Pilipinas said it was a blatant lie and malicious to portray the residents who had “surrendered and returned to the fold” as members of its group.

‘This Scheme Is a Poison Pill’: Trump Blasted Over Federal School Voucher Program

Vance's fraud crackdown may raise costs for US health insurers, enrollees
The 2010 Affordable Care Act created income-based government-subsidized health plans for individuals, with 19 million people ‌now enrolled. Millions have dropped out this year as extra COVID-19 pandemic subsidies expired. The Trump administration now says fraud contributed to the growth. Vice President JD Vance said last week the government had removed 760,000 enrollees it believed did not exist or who had been fraudulently signed up by brokers and were unaware of their insurance coverage. Another 400,000 are under review.

Democrats put $3.4M behind Susan Collins allegations
The big buy from Senate Majority PAC suggests Democrats think they can turn a complicated investigation into a simple message attacking Collins' willingness to put Maine first. It also suggests they don't think the allegations in the ProPublica story — which Collins vigorously disputes — have broken through with Maine voters. "Susan Collins took illegal campaign money and steered millions in government contracts to the donor," a female narrator says in the ad.

Florida’s dengue outbreak is now the largest in the continental US in decades
Federal health officials say their data on dengue outbreaks is limited. But available information from state health departments and medical journals suggests the Florida outbreak marks the most cases in a calendar year for any state since at least the 1940s. Puerto Rico is consistently hit hard by dengue, with numbers much higher than what’s seen in any of the 50 states. But in the continental U.S., Florida usually gets the most locally transmitted cases. The state’s previous worst year was 2023, when just under 200 locally spread cases were reported.

"Strange bedfellows": Bernie Sanders, Florida Dems and a benchmark $250k donation=
The state party's moderate leaders have resisted the rising tide of democratic socialists elevated by Sanders for years. But political changes and financial need have brought the two together like never before: The Florida Democratic Party is essentially broke after decades of being out of power, and national establishment Democratic organizations have so far refused to help. Florida state Rep Angie Nixon, who joined the Democratic Socialists of America this summer, is the state party's U.S. Senate nominee. Sanders endorsed her and has long wanted to help, an aide said.

Against the Politics of Communal Fear By Bhaskar Sunkara
New York City’s new municipal strategy to combat antisemitism comes just days after the war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu used his platform at the United Nations to call Zohran Mamdani “the antisemitic mayor of New York” and claim that since his election “many Jews no longer feel safe” in the city. The initiative seeks to expand education, support victims of hate crimes, and fund security at Jewish institutions and other houses of worship throughout the five boroughs. Laudable as any attempt to reduce animus is, the Left should view the plan skeptically. Antisemitism, it goes without saying, is an evil. And it’s an evil that socialists have particular reason to be concerned with. For centuries, the idea that powerful Jewish interests were at the heart of social injustice was widespread. Socialists of August Bebel’s generation called antisemitism “the socialism of fools” for how it steered resentment of capitalist instability and speculation into ethnic hatred. Today Mamdani is right to condemn it. And it is understandable that he wants to give that condemnation a practical policy expression. This makes sense on the level of both principle and tactics for a political leader who has been the subject of a deliberate and baseless attempt to equate his support for Palestinian freedom with antisemitism. Any socialist mayor should oppose prejudice, enforce equal rights, and respond to specific acts of discrimination or violence. The question is whether the administration’s response is proportionate to the problem, and whether its rhetoric helps people assess their circumstances accurately or encourages them to understand their lives through a sense of communal siege.

Why Russia remains stubbornly insignificant to the Middle East
Support for Palestinian statehood has been Moscow's position since the Soviet Union backed partition in 1947, and it has remained so since the Russian Federation's establishment in December 1991. Rather than providing the Palestinians with substantial support against their Israeli colonisers, the Russian Federation has, since 1991, at best offered nothing more than empty diplomatic rhetoric in support of a defunct two-state solution while maintaining cordial relations with Israel. Even after Israel openly aligned itself with the all-out western war against Russia through the war in Ukraine, the Russians have not abandoned their alliance with Israel. In that alliance, and in its pretence of "both-sidesism" through continued support for the defunct two-state solution, the Russian Federation has fared much worse than the USSR. Aside from meaningless diplomatic declarations like Lavrov's last week, Russia's lukewarm support for Iran in the current war is hardly a major deviation from the Soviets' careful balancing act in the post-war period. The Soviet and subsequent Russian commitment to alienating the Arab public continues apace. Far from forging a new path, the Russian Federation has refused to change its policies towards the Palestinians and Zionism, except by increasing trade and security coordination with Israel over the past three and a half decades. Its support for the Palestinian Authority (PA), which collaborates with Israel and the West, hardly counts as support for the Palestinians. Given these realities, it is curious that no one in Russia's ruling circles has thought of radically changing its failed Middle East policy.

The long, hot summer has officially ended a month ago, yet its echoes continue to resonate across the country. As winter approaches—promising to be the harshest since 1991—hundreds of thousands or even millions of people have been backed into a corner and driven to such a state of utter desperation that they no longer think about the consequences. No positive prospects: if you are not killed on the spot, you highly likely will be imprisoned—and, in all likelihood, no one will even know your name. No international solidarity; even if your name does become known, none of the foreign anti-militarists reading this overview will show up at embassies or other government missions to support you. All that remains is a desperate desire to sell your life dearly. As early as last autumn, we noted that anti-war direct action in Ukraine becomes concentrated in some areas. This summer, that trend has intensified. For instance, late in the evening on June 14, a mass confrontation involving patrol police and territorial recruitment center (TRC) personnel broke out on Balzac Avenue in Troieshchyna—a rough neighborhood in Kiev—following an attempt to forcibly detain a man of conscription age. According to the cops, the driver had committed a traffic violation and attempted to flee; during his detention, he struck a patrolman, and it subsequently emerged that he was also in violation of mobilization legislation. A crowd of several hundred people gathered at the scene, chanting "Shame!" and partially blocking traffic in order to interfere with the officers. Both sides used tear gas, and protesters damaged a service vehicle. Ultimately, the detained man was successfully taken away and transported to the TRC.
