Monogamy is a construct created by patriarchy to impose control on and basically own other people. Be reminded that not so long ago, women were considered their parents or husbands' property in the literal sense, and the way most men act regarding their girlfriends/wives is still extremely possessive to this day. You aren't allowed to love other people. The way the dating world operates in the modern day is out of control in the most part thanks to this.
The structure of "family", which stems from monogamy is also a putrid system. Children are left to the mercy of their parents, who can abuse them all they want with no repercussion (parents essentially own their kids in a literal slave way) and any rejection to this system is seen as unforgivable. Seeing people as more worthy of your time, love or attention simply because they are related by blood to you is a completely anti-human mindset. All working people of humanity must unite in one big family.
In a communist society all work is collectivized, his includes childcare. There is absolutely no reason to leave such an important job in the hands of just two people (sometimes just one), it must be done by the entire community. There would also be trained specialists who work full time on nursing children.
I don't understand why many self-proclaimed communists have a problem with this. No, you do not own your offspring just because you birthed it. Much less if you just fertilized the egg of the person who did. They are a human being with their own autonomy.
This is the biggest obstacle to abolishing monogamy. Once people (specially women) are free from the burden of exclusively raising children and looking for a provider, they will finally enjoy a free sexual life.
The only real downside of being non-monogamous is it increases the risk of STDs, but what increases the risk even more is having poor hygene and not using preventive measures. And if humanity erradicated smallpox and polio, so can we erradicate STDs.
Speaking of sexual life, heteronormativity and dare I say heterosexuality in the first place is also a product of patriarchy, and I have reason to believe most if not all people would be bisexual if it wasn't for religious brainwashing and peer pressure. Men are anatomically built to enjoy taking stuff up their butt, the only reason most men don't enjoy gay sex is because they think it's immoral. Having intimacy with multople people regardless of gender strengthens bonds between members of a community Ancient humans were probably having tons of gay and lesbian sex with no one to shame them for it. Human beings are beautiful regardless of gender, and without the taboo that comes with it most people would be fucking men and women alike (of course there would still be people who don't like having sex at all, and that's okay, but refusing to be intimate with someone just because they are a certain sex is the result of religious brainwashing).

This is in fact illegal in most of the world, it's just not reported, including by the extended family which social pressure each other into silence, increasing the size of the childrearing community wouldn't stop this psychological phenomenon
