The adjustments will negatively affect the growth of science, technology, knowledge and innovation, all of which will affect the country’s development, said Marisol Durán, president of the Consortium of State Universities. In the budget bill for next year, baseline resources will fall by 12.41%, while those allocated to promoting scientific research will decrease by a quarter compared with 2026.

Colombia’s draft counterterrorist statute “creates foundations of dictatorial and inquisitorial regime:” opposition
In a video, Cepeda said that the true purpose of the bill that was leaked earlier seeks “to advance in the formation of essentially a dictatorial regime,.. which, moreover, has such a regime prostrate to drug trafficking.” “The true objectives of this statute are to wage a crusade against the political opposition, social movements, and social protest, which is a legitimate right of citizens,” said the Senator of the Historic Pact party.

Gaza war sped up India’s shift towards Israel under Modi
As Israel was conducting its genocidal war on Gaza, bombing and killing dozens on the very days he was visiting India, New Delhi was ready to expand business with Israel like never before. For decades, India had been one of the world’s staunchest supporters of Palestine, and Europe one of Israel’s closest backers. India’s position has shifted firmly since 2014, when Modi and his Hindu majoritarian Bharatiya Janata Party came to power. But analysts say the optics of Smotrich’s visit underlined something even more dramatic: At a time when even Europe, traditionally seen as backing Israel, has veered away from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, the genocidal war on Gaza appears to have escalated India’s embrace of Israel.

Trump voters are not pumped about voting in the midterms, Reuters/Ipsos poll finds
The six-day poll, completed Monday, also found that men were more enthusiastic ‌about voting and more certain to cast ballots than women, and that male voters showed signs of shifting toward Democrats. That could signal erosion in Republican support among a demographic that was a pillar of Trump's 2024 victory.

Thailand’s Anti-Israeli Protest Wave Isn’t About Palestine
On a hot and humid morning in early September, hundreds of people gathered outside the Israeli embassy in Bangkok. While a few carried familiar symbols of Palestinian solidarity – a flash of red, black, white and green here, a watermelon there – a far greater number came carrying Thai flags. For every placard demanding an end to the genocide, or a boycott of Israel, many more bore nationalist statements, from “Thailand is not for sale” to the openly antisemitic “You Jewish folks don’t understand Thai culture, so get out”. Thailand has been awash with anti-Israeli sentiment over the past few weeks, resulting in unprecedented mobilisations in the capital and on the country’s largest and most touristic island, Phuket. While Palestine solidarity has played a small part in these protests, they have mostly been organised by prominent rightwing agitators calling on supporters to “take Thailand back”. Unlike in other parts of the world, where protests condemning Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza and occupation of the West Bank have become a mainstay of progressive politics, until recently, few Thais seemed interested. Palestine solidarity was the quiet work of Muslim communities, a handful of student and left activists, and a small number of campaigning organisations.

Statement by the Tudeh Party of Iran on the Fourth Anniversary of the “Woman, Life, Freedom” Uprising: The Struggle for Freedom, Social Justice, and the Liberation of Women from the Chains of Medieval Despotism, for the Establishment of Peace and the Preservation of National Sovereignty in the Face of Foreign Aggression, Continues!
This year, the fourth anniversary of the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising comes at a time when our homeland faces extremely difficult economic conditions and the continuing danger of war and foreign aggression. Two hundred days after what the statement describes as the criminal aggression against Iran by U.S. imperialism and Netanyahu’s Zionist regime, the killing of thousands of our compatriots, and the infliction of hundreds of billions of dollars in economic damage, tens of millions of Iranians continue to struggle with extremely difficult economic circumstances to secure the bare necessities of life. Meanwhile, through repressive policies—including the widespread execution of young protesters, young people who courageously resisted the regime’s machinery of repression in Dey 1404—the regime is seeking to exploit the people’s patriotic sentiments and their resistance to foreign aggression in order to consolidate its own position. The struggle against the “profiteers of war and sanctions” and those forces within the establishment that believe the continuation of the regime of the rule of the Supreme Leader can be made possible through the continued state of “neither war nor peace”; the struggle against the wave of repression and executions by the Islamic Republic’s judiciary; and efforts to organize widespread popular protests to force the regime to retreat and accede to the people’s demands—including the achievement of an honorable and lasting peace—are tasks that cannot be delayed.

When history accelerates: Maricarmen's eviction
…. Let’s consider an eviction like Maricarmen’s. The eviction, viewed in isolation, might seem like a specific conflict between an individual and a vulture fund, a legal matter, or a particular housing claim. But certain conditions may already exist surrounding this event: organised groups, solidarity networks, prior experiences of struggle, social unrest, conflicts with institutions, and a shared awareness of a broader problem. The eviction can then become something more than the specific case that triggered it. In the words of a colleague, fires are unpredictable, but it is our duty to stockpile flammable material for when one appears. It is not about denying the particularity of each conflict, but about understanding how it can relate to other conflicts and how it can contribute to building a collective force and, of course, one capable of exceeding the predictable. A concentration of power can produce a primary network of affinities. This network can enable further mobilisation. The institutional response can generate outrage. Outrage can increase participation. Participation can lead to a convergence of forces. Organisation can connect the conflict with other conflicts. And these conflicts, in turn, can modify other sectors’ perceptions of their own possibilities for action. In this process, feedback occurs: an acceleration of conditions and conflicts, an intensification of repression, and a primary awakening of consciousness among much broader segments of the population. There is not necessarily a straight line between the initial event and the final outcome. It is a concatenation of events that interact dialectically. One struggle modifies the conditions of another; a partial victory can generate confidence for a subsequent struggle; a defeat can produce demoralisation or, conversely, new forms of organisation; a repressive response can contain a movement or provoke a broadening of solidarity. In short, a regime of acceleration in which each event ceases to be merely an event and begins to modify the conditions of subsequent events. And that is precisely where the organisational problem arises. Getting organised when time speeds up During periods of stability, the need for a revolutionary political organisation may seem abstract. If struggles develop slowly, are subject to inertial bureaucracies, conflicts are absorbed by institutional mechanisms, and demands appear isolated from one another, it may seem sufficient to intervene in each specific conflict.
But when the political clock speeds up, a different question arises: What do we do with the strength we’ve managed to accumulate? How do we make the fire spread? “Because mobilising is not the same as organising” (Jane McAlevey). And winning a specific demand does not necessarily mean having built a political force capable of transforming the social relations that produce that demand.
