What's your opinion on a leftist leaning tranhumanism? Do you think use technology to enhance mankind is bad and dangerous or is a path way to a new kind of good existence? Of course left leaning transhumanism isn't a monolithic group, but bunch of ideas about the opportunity and perils of using technology on mankind.

Are you somekind of primitivism, bro?

>>2932702
You could call me a bedouin.

It is inevitable.

How you define transhumanism is very vague. W've been using technology to enchance ourselves since we started cooking with fire and makign forest fires to clear fields to hunt.

Indeed, I have glasses myself

I like Ghost in the Shell too but there’s literally no reason to have cybernetic implants when we already have cell phones, it does all the same things but you don’t need major surgery to install it or update it

Obsolete to such a degree you can only laugh

Assuming we don’t run out of minerals for electronics

>>2932880
Functionally they are

>>2932882
I’m not worried about the minerals in the slightest. Plenty enough on earth, plenty enough in space. What I am mote worried about is the lack of sufficient infrastructure and developments.

>>2932883
Functionally you are stupid for saying that

>>2932886
What could any cybernetic implant do that a cell phone couldn’t?

Do you even know what a cybernetic implant dumbass? No, no you don’t smartphone brain.

>>2932890
Ate we talking about real life or cyberpunk fiction?

>>2932900
Dumbass, in general. And why are you limiting it to one fucking genre? Damn.

Seeing how expensive all of it is, I doubt that you can create a mass of Ubermensch, and if you're only choosing a few to be the Ubermensch, you're creating a society divided by a class of superior and inferior man, which goes against communism.

>>2932920
That's one of the point of left leaning transhumanism, they advocate for all people having acess to technology that can make them better, not just a class of rich.

we've already been using technology to "enhance" mankind since the beginning of civilization, through the development of external tools and internal cognitive disciplines which are both forms of technology. transhumanism is just a dumb eugenicist pseudoscience buzzword.

furthermore, as a species we don't really pick and choose our technology, technology is memetic and it develops naturally and we never know what we are going to figure out or what ideas we are going to have until after the fact, so there's not really any point in discussing whether we should or should not invent or use some technology, as if we have some say in the matter. nobody decided to go invent the wheel, they just figured it out one day and someone was bound to figure it out sooner or later and the moment they did the entire rest of the world was bound to get wind of it and start making and using and improving wheels.

if you want to just have a fun conversation about science fiction conjecture and what cool science fiction technologies might possibly be useful for leftists, one i think would probably be good is some kind of drug that enhances neuroplasticity and allows adult humans to learn things as effectively as they did during early childhood, particularly language learning which would be a highly disruptive and revolutionary development, if the adult population could suddenly start becoming polyglots gaining fluent understanding of many major world languages in a very short amount of time.

Its LARP and nothing else

>>2932947
Well, everything and everyone is LARPing, bro

>>2932946
Never liked this idea that people equate transhumanism with old style eugenics, also, what's wrong to use technology to make mankind better?

Transhumanism broadly is meaningless pie-in-the-sky speculative sci-fi masquerading as having any political upshot. At best it has some philosophical upshot as a thought experiment. Where it does have any significance is when it can be connected to the concrete material reality of people's lives, which means things that broadly fall under biohacking and are effectively forms of crowdsourced science being done by slightly insane people who are willing to experiment on themselves in the name of collectivizing proprietary knowledge of things like synthesizing or at least compounding pharmaceuticals out of the intellectual property chokehold of rent-seeking pharma companies and into the hands of the people.

The issue is hardly anyone ever means this when they say transhumanism because most people are completely unserious about the things they claim to believe in and aren't willing to risk giving themselves cancer or going to prison to make it possible for people to access meds that they can't afford or are gatekept by credentialed middlemen technicians (doctors) whose profession is at the whim of whatever the current regime decides is politically expedient. This why the only actually existing transhumanists are trans people doing DIY HRT.

>>2932956
>what's wrong to use technology to make mankind better?

i didn't say anything about using technology being right or wrong, did you even read the post? what i said was any discussion about using technology being right or wrong is a moot point, it would be like discussing whether using language is right or wrong, developing and using technology is a universal and innate human biological function, as a society we don't have any choice in the matter.

transhumanism is a meaningless term, it presupposes that humans are static objects that do not already constantly change themselves and extend their own abilities using technology when they obviously do and have done so since the beginning of human evolution, and it also implies a teleological conception of human evolution as a linear progression toward some determinate end goal, as if we can we can predict the future of evolution and know where it is going.

the science fiction ideas that are typically associated with transhumanism, such as human cloning or mind uploading or gene editing etc. don't magically turn humans into something "beyond" human, a cloned human is just a copy of an ordinary human with its own separate brain and its own indeterminate separate course of post-conception development, a genetically-engineered human is just an ordinary human limited by the exact same set of genetic possibilities that natural evolution would allow, a human brain uploaded or transplanted into a robot body is just an ordinary human using a prosthesis, a very sophisticated wheelchair. the term "transhuman" smuggles in a hierarchy wherein the ordinary humans who use these technologies are granted demigod status. controlling fire or doubling our life expectancy or splitting the atom didn't make us demigods, why would these speculative technologies be any different and where exactly do you draw the line between the non-deifying technologies and the deifying ones? this isn't science, this is religion.

No one said any of this, and you’re in the LEFTIST transhumanism thread, not just general transhumanism.

>>2933092
>Source:

this isn't wikipedia and i didn't make any empirical claims that require citations, i just made logical arguments. do i have to cite a source to prove that 2 plus 2 equals 4? if you can't identify a flaw in the argument or think of a counterargument, demanding citations doesn't magically constitute a rebuttal and nobody here is stupid enough to fall for such a dumb tactic.

>>2933103
>i didn't make any empirical claims that require citations
Stop talking

>>2933107
>Stop talking

no, and also:

>and you’re in the LEFTIST transhumanism thread, not just general transhumanism.

one could also argue that "leftist transhumanism" is an oxymoron in the first place. the word "transhuman" literally means "beyond human" i.e. superhuman, and logically you cannot talk about the superhuman without implying its inevitable counterpart, the subhuman. and having a society of superhumans and subhumans isn't exactly leftist now is it? i mean, this whole idea is basically the ultimate form of totalitarianism, the idea of some tech billionaire or elite committee literally dictating what the entire human species is supposed to be all the way down to the biological level. and if you try to make the argument, "well, we will do it democratically then where every human being in the world influences the decision" - that's what we are already doing now, that's how natural evolution works.

>>2933109

Yes

Okay Gene Roddenberry.
>we will do it democratically then where every human being in the world influences the decision" - that's what we are already doing now, that's how natural evolution works.
Actually braindead

>>2932998
Hitler was influenced by trash novel westerns but it's not like we go around saying that Karl May is an important theorist for Nazism. it's just reactionary (petit) bourgeois retards soying out about their favorite media.

Imagine the force multiplier that mass produced cyborgs will have on the power of the people. Transhumanism is inevitable if technology improves as it has (though I suppose nothing is truly inevitable), and it is highly desirable not just due to its improvement in life quality for the people, but also because it will make revolutionary activity easier and narrow the gap between state and revolutionary forces.

shit thread

>>2933132
What is a mass produced cyborg exactly?

>Actually braindead

how is that braindead? everything that every human being does collectively influences every kind of human evolution, be it biological evolution or social evolution or technological evolution. the system is already as egalitarian and democratic as it could possibly be, all we can do by trying to centrally control it is make it worse and become fascists.

>>2933234
That is not an explanation

People 500 years ago would be disgusted by us. We will be disgusted by people 500 years hence. They will be repulsive cyborgs spending their time doing tasks incomprehensible to us, as if you tried to explain to a peasant what a vtuber let's player is.

>>2932699
primitivism has no method of implementation. human conflicts are decided first and foremost by superior productive forces. this is why a handful of conquistadors with muskets can destroy an entire army of aztec warriors. even in a conflict where technological prowess is supposedly equal, the conflict will be decided by numerical superiority, which is decided by food production. A primitivist can only lash out like a lone wolf against technology, and opt for non participation or suicide. Even if society collapsed from ecological strain, whoever remained in the ruins would compete against one another based on the new, lower productive capacity of the collapsed environment. The only solution to technological development is the end of life itself, since evolution is a biological arms race between species and their environments.

>>2933633
how is disgust relevant though

>>2932699
There's a reason Ted was inducted into the reactionary canon of beautiful losers.

>>2933679
It’s not. Reactionaries like to inject disgust into discussions in order to justify their feel based world views.
>>2933750
If you don’t make this rock work, you ain’t getting anywhere period.

>>2933111
>It also means to change or transfer you utter fool

well in the context of transhumanism it means "beyond" which is obviously what the whole idea is really about and proponents of it make that very clear with all their talk about "human progress" and "higher evolution" and "advanced humans". a more accurate word for it would be superhuman rather than transhuman but they know how stupid and absurd and elitist the word superhuman sounds and how nobody will listen to them if they use that word, so they had to come up with a euphemism, transhuman. it's never a good sign when the idea is already intellectually dishonest just in its name alone - scientology, national socialism, natural medicine, etc.

boy this thread really sank like a rock didn't it, guess it really was utter drivel
