I know absolutely nothing about this podcast other than that their fans seem to be hyperliterate and that /r/rsbookclub pops up over and over and over again whenever I'm looking for discussion of classic literature.

Yet, despite the name "Red Scare", they all seem to be snooty reactionaries now? The vibe I get is that while they still affect as hipster bohemians, they've long since given up Karl Marx for Thomas Carlyle and other reactionary anti-capitalist writers.

Or maybe I'm completely wrong? Someone please fill me in, the fanbase for this show is utterly bizarre.

keep it in /isg/

loser pseuds not worth talking about + dumb enough to back the wrong horse (Trump) tells you all you need to know.

If one podcast has seemingly managed to rope a huge section of classic lit readers into right wing politics I think it's worth discussing.

Adam Friedland radicalized one of them into hating Jews after breaking up with her, she joined Kanye West's design team, showed him Death in June, the totenkopf, and Nick Fluentes. They then became ironically Catholic. She was hooking up with the guy who got out of prison for trying to trying to assassinate Regan to impress Jodie Foster. Look up sailor socialist on youtube. She went from that to being ironically right wing. I think leftism got too trendy and they are both New York fashion hipsters so they had to bite the bullet.

I started paying attention to this podcast (mostly the subreddit) after /r/cumtown got banned.

They became famous because Dasha (the blonde one) dressed up in a Sailor Moon outfit at a Bernie rally back in 2016 and was interviewed by some chick from Infowars where she described herself as "Sailor Socialism".

She herself used to date Adam Friedland from the Cumtown podcast, but he broke up with her after she cheated on him.

Beforehand, it was Nick Mullen, first mic on the Cumtown podcast, who suggested that Anna and Dasha should start a podcast in the first place.

Nick himself got the idea of starting Cumtown from the success of Trapo Chap House, half of whom are either vegetables or on the run for alleged sex offences. Amber, from Chapo, was the one who first coined the term "Dirtbag Left".

As the years went on, and as the Bernie support faded, the Red Scare duo moved away from the SocDem movement and towards more reactionary positions, the subreddit started to strongly disagree with their "hot takes" (though I still lurk there as the posters can be quite funny sometimes).

As for the podcast itself, I have only listened to one episode, featuring Alex Jones. He was talking about how the chick that interviewed Sailor Socialism was not authorised to do so, and was subsequently fired.

He was also talking about how he prefers the Class Reductionist Left over the Intersectionality Crowd, and how he has read Hegel.

t. oldfriend who was one of the earliest posters on 8cancer /leftypol/, who knew about Chapo when it was new (and pushed very hard on /leftypol/) and regularly wonders why I didn't get on the grift back when it paid six figures a month

Keep in mind that this is my first post on a /leftypol/ board in about 7 years or so.

snca the thread

Bunch of opportunistic pseud losers that prostitute themselves to whoever is currently on top of the content grifter space for crumbs of clout. They will probably turn their coats (and their panties) now that 'woke is back'. Not really worth paying attention to, especially in the big 2026, because their content is just lame inside gossip.

Thanks for your take. I still can't figure out the answer to my main question however: why are their fans so into classic literature? I could never imagine the likes of Chapo Trap House etc. even understanding, let alone enjoying J.-K. Huysmans, but the Red Scare fanbase somehow seems to be into him. I'm pissed off that I found a supposedly socialist book club that somehow ended up pushing reactionary bullshit.
>Alex Jones has read Hegel
I seriously doubt it, but he does like to invoke "the Hegelian dialectic" a lot as if it's some sort of "Fabian Socialist" black magic. Basically it's the political ratchet metaphor with some mystical "thesis / antithesis" jargon thrown on top.

Again - it's a hotspot for aging millennials who used to post on /lit/, /mu/ and /tv/.

People who read Dostoevsky, Pushkin, Hemingway, Joyce, Steinbeck.

Bands like like MBV, NMH and AJJ.

Television shows like Moral Orel.

Beyond my time, I have no idea what those things looked like. TBH my only real chan experience is /leftypol/, which I think was at its best when I first discovered it in late 2017 (catgirl drama). I was too young and too much of a booklet back then to really contribute myself, but I remember the board being much better read and more pluralistic back then - real anarchist representation, well-read left communists, people who actually read classic literature, right-wing Nietzscheans who would butt in etc. I'm still here, but mostly just chasing the effervescent feeling I got from the 8chan days tbh.

That brings up another question: did that whole intellectual millennial crowd all shift to the right like the Red Scare crowd did? Some kind of "dark bohemia" shift? A lost generation that we could have won to socialism?

They were always socdems and then became the typical third worldist "anti imperialist", now they're probably gonna go back to socdem with the DSA upsurge. Tbh it's all become one big blob of slop. Theres very little strong ideological lines that people follow nowadays.

Talking about aging millenials btw. Looking back, I think us millenials overhyped ourselves.
