It's a meme, they stand out due to (a) incongruence, (b) pinkwashing advertising (less common now) and (c) demographics (e.g. there are possibly more gays in the arms industry than the average across all sectors, but this is partially compositional: some sectors employ a lot more older people, and a lot more young people are LGBT than older people, so if you normalize for age the effect will go away)
