<*after 20 chapters of bullshit* zomg he has a boner through his skirt!
i should know never to read any serious "transgender" manga recommendations every time no matter how it's sold it's just trap fetish shit where they seduce married men and have sex with women with le epic penis. nothing will ever be bokura no hentai why even try

i might as well have been reading doujinshi at least it would be drawn better and would acknowledge what theyre fetishising is a trans woman on hormones instead of talking around it

Well Bokura no Hentai was written by a woman, and well before the whole "trap" fixation began.
Also good pick. Was my introduction to the wild and wacky world of Japanese trans queer culture.

I also preferred Bokura no Hentai, but Hourou Musuko was pretty good for the most part, we used to have weekly storytime threads for it on /a/ way back when it was still going.
Hopefully I'm not being too spoiler-y but it starts out strong then starts going downhill about 3/4 of the way through, where one of the protagonists' plotlines is more or less concluded in a way that feels kind of sudden and not terribly satisfying given the story leading up to it, while the other protagonist kind of gets sidelined to focus more on the supporting cast and wrap up their plotlines, and the parts that DO focus on that protagonist end in a way that's vaguely positive but not really conclusive enough to feel satisfying. I'd still recommend it if you're looking for a manga about trans characters, but I feel like it lacked something as emotionally impactful as Marika's coming-out scene in BnH.
Oh, and it also got an anime but it starts off in the middle of the story and had kind of odd pacing imo so I'd recommend going with the manga if you do decide to check it out

Ahem, I'm just reading the third or whatever chapter of boku no hentai now, what is this exactly? You lied

Don't worry I'm a pervert though so I don't mind
