90% of the time the "exclusion" is just jokes at the expense of the overarching group that the individual straight man takes too seriously because he's not personally secure enough to distinguish the frustrated complaints of a minority from a personal attack. (E.g. if I say "I hate men" it does not follow that I hate you, or my father, or my brother, or any number of other men. There are innumerable unstated exclusions which are intuitive to those not looking to feel wounded.)
