There are also JS PoW based mitigations for Layer 7 attacks.
Layer 3/4 attacks are the trickier to mitigate.
They require the VPS or reverse proxy to have enough bandwidth to soak up a DDOS.

I just noticed this nonsense makes keeping threads open impossible. Try having /isg/ open in one tab and notice that after some time new posts just stop appearing, probably because the API is also covered by the captcha
