We both (and cockshott too) know perfectly well what today's social media platforms are. Users on platforms like X aren't autonomous beings, they're controlled by the algorithm because it has almost direct access to the limbic system. Cockshott has been on X for many years now. His psychographic profile, his digital twin, has become extremely precise. The algorithm knows what triggers him, what turns him on, what attracts his attention. He has no control because he's dealing with an unequal opponent. To pretend that this has no effect on his thinking is simply hypocritical.

Anyone who wants to understand why cockshott is the way he is today inevitably has to consider his use of X. Cockshott has been a Twitter/X user for years. The algorithms are becoming increasingly powerful, the psychological profiling ever more precise. He's being controlled througj the algorithm. (Quite ironic, considering he's a cyberneticist himself!)

Alba were socially-conservative socdem scottish nationalists opportunistically using TERFism to rehabilitate the reputation of their leader after he was accused of sex offenses / punish his former party, the SNP, for being in government when he was prosecuted for said offenses.

Now, you may say: Anon, all the socialist and communist orgs in the UK are a joke. It makes sense to join something like that and use it to get a platform for some good ideas, right?
Well, Alba is the least successful non-communist party in Scottish politics. It never managed to get a single representative elected at any level, not even local councils. It was accused of rigging candidate selections even though none of those candidates had a hope in hell of winning. It ultimately wound up earlier this year amidst accusations that their finance guy embezzled all the money. So even as TERFY, occasionally homophobic, pro-oil socdem civic nationalists, they were a total flop - let alone as any kind of useful vehicle for the left.

What drew Cockshott to this band of absolute chancers is left as an exercise for the reader.
