I wasn't around for the 8chan days, I found this site probably around 2024. Used a lot of reddit forums but would constantly get banned for being too violent. Went out searching for somewhere with less rules that was specifically for leftists and found this. This site is far far from perfect but it's pretty much the only thing like it on the internet that I've found

I found this it 8chan while I was looking for a furry imageboard lol.

I read a tweet by some chick who was in a conversation with Sam Kriss. She mentioned leftypol in one of the tweets.

Twitter does seem like a good funnel. I remember this site used to have like 5 people at a time and now there's new threads like every hour. I think a lot of it is due to the leftypol twitter account and just people there in general mentioning the site

i found out from r/cth in 2019 lol. can't believe it's been that long. i do NOT miss the old days of berniecrat socialism goddamn

From some article about a chudjak

Im an ancientfag, I found out about leftypol back when leftypollers were shilling the website on 4pol. It was actually my introduction to leftism as well and likely saved my life as I was extremely depressed and suicidal back then and was planning something stupid but leftism gave me an actual understanding of how the world works and I stopped blaming the wrong people

/pol/ kept naming this place and eventually I decided I'd check it out.

I just looked up “Leftist version of 4chan” and found this

You can't go to the actual 8Chan per se but then 8kun kind off stood in as the new 8chan or however the crow flies

Actually, I wanted to look for 240chan but then the landing page sent me to Leftypol.

i dont remember exactly but i think alunya popped up somewhere and i liked her design a lot and did some investigation and found this site.

I thought leftypol was a general on 4chan pol lol and then they linked to this website in their 24/7 seething about it. 4chan nazis do the best advertising for leftypol and they do it for free.

same but it wasn't on /pol/, it was on some other board I can't recall. probably /lit/

8chan, I didn't use leftypol board back then so I missed 'the golden age' but I knew of its existence, I mostly used /christian/ and /pol/ until the Christchurch mosque shooter ruined everything, but I didn't have a job then, until I got a job and became proletarianised I got interested in left-wing politics and it was only natural to gravitate towards leftypol.

i found leftychan first and saw people there shitting on this site so i decided to check it out and stayed when i found out it wasn't as bad as they said

I used to argue socialist viewpoints on /int/ and /his/ and somebody told me to come here and linked it. This was back in the 8chan days, in 2016 I think.

Discord mod told me to "go back to leftypol" as they banned me

To refresh my memory I attempted to see descriptions of 2014-2016 era on the lefypedia wiki but to my dismay it completely lacks any info on 2015 and 2016. I know for a fact I was participating during 2017 since it was pretty jarring, with the infighting and splitting.
https://leftypedia.miraheze.org/wiki/Leftypol
Also whatever info was on the unitedchans wiki is gone because the page is 404'd:
https://unitedchans.fandom.com/wiki//leftypol/
Any other oldfags that can give a description filling in the blanks of 2015 and 2016? We all know that it emerged from 4/lit/ in 2014, but did anything specific happen in 2015 or 2016, as in, the period preceding the BO's control-behavior meltdown? I remember 2017-2019 actually being really annoying and barely usable towards the end and that the creation of Bunkerchan was a huge breath of fresh air. A lot of 2018/early 2019 consisted of mutual raiding trolling, micro-splits (since 8chan software allowed for creation of mini-boards at a moments notice) where ML v ML v ML v MLM v Trot v ancom v annihil v nazbol v mutualists trolling and brigading each others threads were the norm, frequently interrupted by massive /pol/ and p*do raids. I eventually stopped using the site/boards and didnt return until I heard of bunkerchan through word of mouth, probably via lainchan or something.

on booru 2014 is empty:
2015-2017 has a lot of memes I think we all recognize but little from a "meta" perspective, for example a single meme or mention of the leftpol split and raid is completely absent, which is kinda crazy imo.
Meta-narrative in image attached (from 2017) was found via searching for 'bat ko' specifically. booru has nothing tagged at all for 'leftpol'.

This trip down memory lane reminds me that the core of these communities will always be around the theorychads. The rest is just newfag noise and raider spam.

It was the golden age, was a lot less sectarian, more politically diverse and people had much more curiosity and good faith talking to eachother. There were also many name and avatarfags producing content or at least being laughed at.
There was a kind of symbiotic relationship with /pol/ where they would frequently come and make threads to debate one thing or another and get dogpiled. Those threads were often pretty good and the common enemy probably helped keep everyone more friendly with eachother. Apart from that the main thing that defined /leftypol/ was 'anti-idpol' which was always somewhat vague but in those days you also wouldn't see anywhere near as much right-wing idpol trying to pass itself off as anti-idpol, or just be tolerated openly as you have since 2020ish. For the first 3 years or so the board was about 60/40 anarchist to marxist and there was always a new ideological flavour of the month that would get popular to discuss and make memes about, and generally it would spawn a contrarian counter to itself, so there was a period of a few months where market socialism, tito and yugoslavia were popular, which was followed by bordigism becoming popular, etc.
Old BO having a mental breakdown and banning everyone because they thought Trump bombing Syria would inaugurate the end times and they needed to play their part in the struggle as the admin of a small forum is very funny in retrospect but it unambiguously killed /leftypol/ and it has never recovered the level or quality of activity. Obviously wqasn't all down to them though, not only was that type of psychosis not only restricted to them, but the general tendency of the english-speaking internet left has been towards vulgarisation self-lobotomisation for years, which /leftypol/ probably played some part in. People whose understanding of history is primarily a collection of thought-terminating cliches learned from a /leftypol/ meme they saw on reddit or twitter or facebook ten years ago, with everything built on top of that crooked foundation.

I think leftypol is what's left of 420chan? Im a 420chan refugee

>be me, 10 years ago

>antisocial philosophy student and oldfag 4Chan anonymoose type anarchist from back when 4Chan was basically a left-leaning politically before it got astroturfed by Stormfront and Jeffrey Epstein to stop the revolution if would have ended up accidentally creating
>hear about 8Chan because of gamergate
>go to 8Chan for the alt boards because sick of the growing /pol/ monoculture on halfchan
>see they have /leftypol/
>still here because I have never developed into a human being

Found it in 2018 or 2019, probably through kuroba if i recall correctly. I didn't start posting much until bunker. It makes me a little sad that I seem to have missed the window when this site wasn't filled with sectarian quoteminers

I may be looking through nostalgia goggles, but I remember there being a much larger diversity of opinions, a far greater tolerance for disagreement (i.e. people were chill about it instead of vulgar and hostile), and generally much higher effort discussion. One random thing I remember that would be unthinkable today is that there was a Hungary '56 flag, which was included because there was a substantial number of posters who viewed that movement positively. Additionally Stirnerposting and Bookchinposting were extremely common. I remember that there was always at least one thread up at all times in which MLs and Leftcoms would be trading long effortposts with sources and quotations from Marx, Engels, Lenin, Bordiga, etc. to back up their views. Ultimately, as an ML I think that the predominant opinions of the board have actually become more correct, but at the same time the quality of the discussion has dropped dramatically. I suppose with the establishment of a broadly ML orthodoxy it becomes easier for people to be dismissive and hostile towards differing opinions, plus they rarely have to actually defend their views leading to the decline in effortposts.

heard 8 chan had a lefty version of pol around 2015, visited, didn't really post, just kinda lurked, came back after it moved here to its own site and stayed, mainly because the rest of 8chan sucked

Found it thru bunker mag years ago
