What do punk rockers think of pop punk? I think it eschews the political aspect of punk, and cleans it up a lot and makes it much more neutral. It also focuses a lot on the youthful energy part of punk, and is a very young style of music. I can see how some people can see this as kind of an appropriation of their culture and a sterilization of what makes punk punk. But that sort of attitude is kind of gatekeeping, though we have to acknowledge that punk rockers and people who were part of the pop punk culture belonged to different groups at the time back when music formed some young people's identities. The pop punk culture was sort of completely separate, and its own beast, similar with nu metal and metal. Does it mean the music was bad? No, it wasn't.
The funny thing is that sonically I think I prefer the way pop punk sounds better. It just has a more, I don't know how to describe it, accessible sound maybe? A lot of punk rock doesn't have great production and very simplistic in guitar playing. I get that its the point, but it just doesn't sound as good to my ears that way.

This is just assessments I'm making with my limited knowledge, so feel free to correct me.
