I listen to Kino almost religiously, it genuinely changed my life and I haven't found a band that makes me feel the same way. I have a friend who I showed this group to and he loved it, I even saw the movie Igla.

How do they make you feel, anon?

I hadn't heard them until recently but learned they're huge in Russia. Watching some of Tsoi's performances, it's like he had a hypnotic effect on people. There is where I think it'd really help me if I knew the language. There was an interesting period where all kinds of uniquely Russian rock music was being made which wasn't copying Western bands.

Once I started listening to these songs, it was an interesting because it "sounded" clunky to my ears at first but then became really sonically interesting and different.

Another version. I mean what can you say, really

Instrumental version. I mean just listen to 2:39.

You know this is post-punk too, but understated. It lures me in. It's the opposite of the inexplicably hysterical Bruce Springsteen here in the U.S.A who's always bellowing something about being born here (I don't even know, except that he's trying to bludgeon me to death with it). But never confuse how overwrought someone is with how much emotion they're expressing.

I'm using him to contrast Tsoi in an extremely opposite way, because there could be a nuclear war going on and you'd need a geiger counter to detect panic – let alone hysteria – in a Russian, because he's not going to show it. But that might make this kind of music even more emotionally powerful. Kino works up to it slowly, or like, earns it.

Kino is great, are there any other goth / post-punk recommendations people have?
