How can socialists bring beauty back into the arts, especially in music?
Beauty has transcendent qualities which are as important for socialists as they are for Christians and the peoples of old. When you are surrounded by nothing but ugly, you start to see the world as nothing but ugly, and begin to lose faith in your fellow working man. Beauty thus builds a sense of solidarity between workers as much as it builds a connection between the spiritual and the material. "Beauty is truth."
Our music today is disgusting. Most of it is chaotic, distorted and off-kilter. Music sampling, which makes up the backbone of hip hop and electronic music, has turned producers into god-men and has completely destroyed the collectivist element of music creation. The Soviet Union, meanwhile, had public orchestras play for the people out in the open free of charge. China bans hip hop and teachers its youth classical music as any socialist nation should.
Beauty is crucial to socialism and we must use socialism to bring it back.(USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST)
Learn to use a mod tracker if you think there's an absence of sufficiently beautiful music. RETVRN rhetoric just makes you look lazy on both the front of creation and curation.
Hell even just strudel to get you started:
https://strudel.cc/>transcendentKantian nonsense. You find beauty pleasant because you look at it and dopamine happens. That's all it needs to be, and you can still want things to be pretty for self-serving reasons, which Max Stirner explains is fine.
>the spiritual and the materialIf you were a materialist you would understand that there's no such distinction, all is material, even the thing you think isn't.
>Our music today is disgusting.Get off spotify / the radio / whatever social media algorithm isn't honing in on your tastes and use your bookmarks.
>Most of it is chaotic, distorted and off-kilter.Then listen to theoretically simpler music if fancy time signatures and screeching are too spicy for you.
>Music samplingAll music is sampling. If you use a wood and wire guitar, you are sampling the vibrations of plucked strings. Computers just let you sample more complex things.
>producers into god-men and has completely destroyed the collectivist element of music creation.Again, no one is preventing you from making music.
>China bans hip hopOne visit to any Chinese website would disprove this:
https://www.bilibili.com/https://xiaohongshu.com/>teachers its youth classical musicClassical music is used to teach music everywhere, because classical music is inherently simpler and hones in on core music theory concepts by the simple fact that it was made before more advance music theory was made, not because it's more VRIL than jazz, which you would know China teaches next if you bothered to interact with Chinese netizens even once.
>>16059>Music sampling, which makes up the backbone of hip hop and electronic music, has turned producers into god-men and has completely destroyed the collectivist element of music creation.Ever consider most hip hop producers are autistic and have a completely different understanding of "beauty" than neurotypicals? Like, an autistic person who walks into a gothic cathedral won't be taken aback the way a neurotypical person will.
Kanye's music is "ugly" but it's because he's autistic, not because he's Black.
>>16083They are utilized as instruments.
Also, why do so many modern-day classical composers and music theorists revere hip hop producers? What’s their logic, if “pushing buttons on an MPC” isn’t “real” music composition?
>>16085>>16108>>16112This actually makes a much better case for OP. In a Soviet America, a musically gifted black boy from Detroit would be sent to an elite musical academy where he would learn how to compose beautiful, complex symphonies. He wouldn’t have to resort to pushing buttons on a sampler to make music but would be taught the highest of musical art form.
Look at China: they ban hip hop almost entirely. They don’t give their schoolchildren MPCs and teach them to “sample” but instead focus on teaching their children how to play classical music using legitimate instruments. MPCs and other samplers are products of the ghetto. The goal of socialism is NOT to romanticize the ghetto but to universalize the beauty that was once previously enjoyed only by aristocrats. It’s the same reason why the USSR had public classical music concerts and covered its buildings, subways and public spaces with SOCIALIST REALIST art.
What’s interesting is how Detroit also used to be covered in Socialist Realist murals like those of Diego Rivera during the New Deal. You saw paintings that turned auto workers into heroes. Now Detroit is ground zero for ugliness in America. If beauty is our second creator, what kind of people is ugliness creating?
>>16114>>16115Ugly begets ugly.
Detroit needs legitimate music and legitimate art to do away with Malthusian and anti-human thinking.
