I once took a computer repair class at my local high school that was more of a hobby group for largely middle aged and older retired men. My mother convinced me to go into it thinking I could learn a useful skill and also something to get me out of the house since I was a neet at the time. The people in the class were generally nice and helpful but I just didn't click with the atmosphere since it was mostly older guys and I was quite a bit younger at the time. I remember every younger that ever showed up would never really last long and I was there most of the year. Didn't really learn much. I'm not really much into fixing or repairing stuff even if it's important. Later that year I remember going to work and meeting some people that were into nerdy things like DND and some were also into lifting weights and exercising . They were closer to me in age, I was the older one in that situation, but I had little interest in participating in activities with them even if they were generally welcoming. I'm now in my early 40s and I don't really associate with anyone. Just work and home. I don't think I would ever really get into anything long enough to get to know people or learn something. At this point I feel like everything I do is just damage control and not about helping me but more so I don't hurt as much.
