Materialist explanation for the popularity of the yandere archetype? I think that:

It stems out of morbid curiosity for a reversal of roles in the "usual" heterosexual couple: "what if the woman was the violent and possessive one in the relationship?"
It speaks of the desire of the male audience to have someone that unconditionally and blindly loves them, no matter their looks or personality

These are some random thoughts I had before but it m definitely not smart and eloquent enough to expand on them a la Breadtube video essay.
