Do you believe that organic internet communities even exist? I think it's all fake. Whether it's Reddit, 4chan, Leftypol, or even Dread. To me, all these platforms just feel like a simulation. I don't think most users are bots, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were. But I'm convinced that these platforms are dead. It was different in their early days. But they died a long time ago, and their bodies have simply been stuffed, and they're pretending to be alive. The tragic thing about it all is that you can't really know. You can only feel that it's all just dead. That it's all just staged. It's no fun arguing with "people," trolling them. It's like playing against bots. They behave according to a predictable pattern; they react. But it's just an "effect" without any meaning.

i keep seeing memes for the mario movie and its so obvious to me that its just marketing being pushed by bots. the internet is dead

While OP is just automated spam, I'd reccomend to an actual user
  • learn to use your bookmarks
  • try to find one new website per day
  • before you search something, think about if any of the sites you've bookmarked might already have that information
  • find a good fedi instance (rare but worth it)
  • make a personal site where you link to shit that interests you and try to write an essay at least every few months.

We've been getting a lot of dead internet theory threads lately, we need to bring the digital grass general back.

What do you think, does the clear web even have a future? I suspect that in the long run there will only be two places: the sterile, official corporate web (clear web) and the darknet. Everything that doesn't fit into the clean clear web will either disappear or go to the darknet.

Internet communities aren't real. Communities exist in real life with real people who interact face to face. Even if you talk to people you know in real life on the internet, that doesn't make the internet a community, any more than the post office or a (real) bulletin board is a communtity, just extensions of it. It's funny because back in the 80s/90s there was debate over whether things like "the gay community" or "black community" were real communities, with many saying no. But at least the gay community might actually have real life people talking with each other.

>Communities exist in real life with real people who interact face to face.
Communities never existed. Fleshtubing irl doesn't fix the issue that communication always has medium of some sort.

>>778214
The Fediverse can NEVER be an alternative because it has adopted the worst features of social media (likes/dislikes, identities, follows, upvote/downvote). Any platform with these features is structurally no different from Facebook or X.

>>778331
It's chill tho, and someone can always just make a instance software/frontend that doesn't include those. Like some people just use it for comment sections on their blogs. Main issue is identities, but even just having a personal website is inherently having an identity.

>>778380
>someone can always just make a instance

Oh no, please no more instances…How many more instances do we need? How much more user fragmentation do we need? In the end, we have 10000000000 instances, all completely isolated from each other, and each instance has 3 users total.

>>778394
>How many more instances do we need?
Infinity
>How much more user fragmentation do we need?
They use activitypub to federate, that's why it's called fedi.
>all completely isolated from each other, and each instance has 3 users total.
I see plenty of instances with 2 to 3 digit user counts from the one I'm using. Just find a non-HOA instance.

The Fediverse is an absolutely idiotic concept. It reminds me of the split between Leftypol and Leftychan, only more extreme. Leftychan "defederated" from Leftypol, and now we have two completely isolated platforms with two isolated communities. They've perfected this principle with the Fediverse. Everything is just as awful as before. This talk about "decentralization" is just smoke and mirrors.

>>778452
Leftychan is like 7 different chuds that didn't like the anti-idpol and anti-incel rules, so it's good that they're on a different site now.

You're really just framing federation as a good anti-spam tool, which it is.

>>778403
name me some good instances please

Well I self-host, but I've seen quite a few english speaking artists denden.world and meow.social, and a lot of japanese artists on misskey.io and kemokemo.org. Seems like a lot of popular artists from twitter (coldbloodedtwilight, kekitopu, etc…) moved to baraag, which I wouldn't recommend moving to as a user because of the lolisho stuff, but it's worth least federating with it if you're self-hosting.

I mostly just use fedi as an art gallery so I haven't looked to much at other kinds of instance, but people on art instances tend to talk about other stuff too.

I'd say what makes or breaks an instance is it's rules, so self-hosting is optimal if you have the skillset for it.

>try to find one new website per day

post all websites you have collected

im tired of being anti-fake. for contrarian and for curiosity's sake, i am embracing fiction bc thats all humanity has made itself.

>>778301
thats fake too. the made up is everywhere bc we love making shit up! there is no natural bc natural is made up and constantly being redefined

>>779044
I've only started recently after remembering the old digital grass thread reccomending it, but I have found a few so far:
Once college is over I plan to do this more

It's just notalgia, everything is cooler when it's new to you.

>>779168
probably this.

>>778331
>noooooooooo downvotes are bad, i need imageboards where i can rape everyone with my bad takes nonstop and no consensus that i'm an asshole can ever be shown

>>779208
you have to go back.
