I have uygha friends who live in the region, they told me that the muslims causing trouble came across the border from Afghanistan during the gulf wars and basically just started bombing the shit out of and stabbing any uygha who didnt want to separate from China - they wherent even targeting Han Chinese for the most part and the people requesting the Chinese government do something about it was uygha cultural leaders who wanted the terror to stop.
