>see a dogshit post
>it has ClipboardImage.png filename

What's the material explanation for this?

File: 1777787997134.jpg (33.76 KB, 400x400, ClipboardImage.jpg)

I always use the ClipboardImage name for bait posts, even though saving images to the clipboard doesn't work on my computer.

sometimes it's easier and faster to find the image I want by searching for it in a search engine than trying to find it in my filesystem. it didn't have to end this way. we could have implemented metadata in OS filesystems like BeOS/Haiku.

If you can't bother coming up with meaningful names, just name with a bunch of tags and search using wildcards or find -name. Even then i prefer tabbing through 2000+ images over $$earch engines.

cute image

cuz sin titulo.png doesn't hit as hard as it used to be

It's just easier

I would rather paste an image from another tab (1 step) than save it/ name it/ upload it (3 steps). what a weird thing to get hung up on. here have a named file since you want to be a big baby about it.

putting tags into the filenames is a really ugly hack, having to do that for all my unorganized files would also be a huge slog. I would just write a bespoke local booru sorta deal for myself but I'd basically have no way of integrating it into the OS without then having to also fuck around with FUSE. I've thought about this a lot and it would be a nontrivial amount of work although there's a good chance I will eventually attempt this nonetheless because having to look things up in a search engine is itself a stopgap hack.

It's not unless the original name is important to you. Whether you define a filename format, reserve an exiv tag or stuff it into an xattr, it's what you do with it that gives the value store its semantic significance. Look at the envdir program in daemontools and you will understand.

The advantage of filenames is, that you already have shell globbing and find to deal with them, instead of having to write your own tools. I don't delineate my tags and concatenate everything with underscores, because i'm lazy. If you wished you could use anything from "[tag1] [tag2].type" to s-expressions with atom quoting though.

I've had that same idea but then I remember I'd have to manually fucking tag all my gigs of images and have an existential crisis between my autistic love of sorting and being productive within my limited lifespan. I resorted to a dozen or so folders labeled as emotions and sort as I save.

Tagging your stuff is really not that hard, if you immediately do it for each new file. Picrel is from 'img/art/draw/2hu/fujiwara_no_mokou'. I have a few tags like the expression, that i keep consistent ('wonder' for neutral to plaintive, 'smirk' for closed mouth smile, 'smile' for open mouth smile, etc.), but the rest is mostly for disambiguation.
