It’s so obnoxious that a lot of our movie/TV franchises are ruined by people whining about artistic direction going a different way than expected to the plot lines.

Either that or people whining about “gooner bait” or “whitewashing” or “brown washing” or “misogyny” just because someone didn’t get their preferences or demographic representation catered to.

In music, especially hip-hop/R&B and punk all constantly whine about “Rock n roll/hip-hop is dead, it’s all the same shit over and over again”.

And yet most of the underground shit is just a rehash of the mainstream sound

Punk and hip hop have not changed much in their sentiments since they started.
They’re all just semi-delinquent fucktards who wanna raise hell for amusement.

They don’t even wanna mix their musical styles with more symphonic/orchestral melodic progressions

What I find interesting is that at least in my experience a significant chunk of both fanbase and creators of rap music are aware of and perfectly fine with being just semi-delinquent fucktards who wanna raise hell for amusement. Whats funny is these soundcloud producers have actually pushed the boundaries of what even counts as rap music more than all the people complaining about rap that isn't hotep lyrics over boombap beats. Then you've got punk where everyone takes that shit way too seriously and acts like a fashion aesthetic from the 20th century is an actual coherent world view that will change society. Despite all the constant arguments about what is authentically punk the sound hasn't changed meaningfully in decades while random teenagers on triller and soundcloud are making music thats more experimental.

Kanye West started that SoundCloud trend back in 2008 with 808s and Heartbreak

However I wish we would have more symphonic/progressive form of hip hop like they did for rock and funk
