But to be fair, the notion of a “golden age” in itself is problematic since it’s based on the assumption that whatever preceded it must have been some sort of a “dark age”. An example would be how the Renaissance in Europe is thought of as a “golden age” compared to the medieval period, even tho much of the Christian zealotry westoid secularists associate the medieval period with (e.g., the wars of religion, witch-hunts, etc…) actually peaked in the early modern period, notwithstanding how medieval Europe played the foundations for modernity.

With that said, the many of the most important figures of the so-called “Islamic golden age” were indeed Muslims, such as Ibn Sina, Ibn al-Haytham, Al-Khwarizmi, Al-Biruni, and Fakhr al-Din al-Razi. This talking point that they were all secretly atheists or whatever seems to be unfalsifiable anti-clerical contrarian nonsense, especially as there already were non-Muslim contributors like Hunayn ibn Ishaq and Thabit ibn Qurra who weren’t suppressed.

Unrelated, but I’ve yet to see how exactly Islam as a religion is any worse than Judaism (which has a binding divine command for ethnic/racial genocide that is absent in both Islam and Christianity) and Christianity (with both testaments being more violent than the Holy Quran).
