Some say that Alexis de Tocqueville’s “Democracy in America” is the 19th century equivalent of modern “China insider” slopumentaries like the ones produced by Serpentza considering how for many Europeans the USA of their times was effectively “Europe but if the enlightenment actually occurred” since back then America was still somewhat of an “anti-Europe”. But I think that comparison does a great disservice to Alexis. For once he actually went there to analyse the social conditions of the time, he wasn’t pushing some propagandistic line.
Also, he has the refined quality that many China watchers just lack, especially as the current attention economy means most China watchers and China hawks are incentivised to push the most inane and bizarre narratives on China, like the chud that runs the “China uncensored” channel affiliated with the Falun Gong-run “The Epoch Times”.
With that said, Serpentza and the likes are better insofar that their videos on China never really contained actual falsehoods. If anything, their framing on China is more problematic. With that said, Serpentza is the most interesting by far since this Boer is also an AfriForum shill and Afrikaner tether in America who has dedicated his whole life to attack and hate the CCP. You have to give credit to that, few ever actually give off such dedication nowadays, not with zoomers who are just Gen X redux all the way to their play-pretend nihilism.
Anyway, has anyone watched any China-hater content, watched their slop, or never? For the ones that did, have you ever stopped? If so, when?
