Just had to buy a new phone because my old iphone 12 broke (the battery was fucked and the back GLASS was shattered… GLASS who's fucking bright idea was it to make the back of a phone out of glass, thats retarded)

bought a refurbished iphone 12 mini, slightly less powerful but cheap and also i don't give any money to apple; anyway, i would've bought something cheaper like an iphone 11 or se but figured the 12 would be supported slightly longer

which made me think: why the fuck isn't there just a phone that is designed to last like, 20 years? iphones only get around 7 years of support before they're ditched, and then 2 years until the ios they're running on becomes obsolete for modern apps; but why? why does there need to be constant software updates and new models? they're all basically the same, except newer versions of ios come prepackaged with israeli spyware

tl;dr i wish we lived in a world where the state would just give me leninphone x that would last me my entire life

They're just messing with you.

techbros are still riding on the high of the 90s and think tech will continue to get exponentially better meanwhile it hasnt changed for over a decade. a 10 year old phone is just as good as a brand new one

7 years of support is pretty good, I think my shitty LG phone only got a single update in the 8 years I had it.

This is really comes down to the combined impact of hardware and code churn. Continuing supporting for old models incurs legacy costs on the systems vendors and complicates developing portable applications, yet these costs and even largely the need to receive updates would plummet, if software wasn't constantly obsoleting and breaking old interfaces. In a world where software stability was a first-class concern, all it would take to run the newest programs, would be finding a Linux or NetBSD release for your platform.

cellphone same colour leaann tho, twerkin dat hoe like hood bitch
